From Publishers Weekly

"Life Is Too Short to Date Dull Men" is Lucy Lake's motto, but when this bad boy-loving shopaholic is evicted after one too many shopping sprees, she finds herself leaning on the well-muscled shoulder of good guy Greg Polhemus, the son of her dead mother's gardener. Greg comes in handy when Lucy tries to save her mother's dying roses, and he even offers her a job as office manager at his eco-friendly landscaping business, despite the fact that Lucy is fearful of caring for the environment because "it might involve wearing ugly shoes or doing without certain essential beauty products." Greg is willing to lend a lot more, but Lucy rejects him, knowing he possesses too much integrity to be a bad boy. But when Greg proves that his love for Lucy is stronger than his desire to keep a big client, she comes to realize that good guys have their merits. Myers's tale is as simple and superficial as its heroine, but it's not without charm. The protagonists' chemistry and Lucy's spunk keep this fluffy novel grounded.

More About the Author

Cindi Myers became one of the most popular people in eighth grade when she and her best friend wrote a torrid historical romance and circulated it among their peers. Fame was short-lived, however; the English teacher confiscated the manuscript and advised her to concentrate on learning to properly diagram a sentence. From this humbling beginning, she has gone on to write more than three dozen novels that have been translated into more than a dozen languages and distributed all over the world. Her books have been praised for their emotion, humor and realistic characters. She writes stories about relationships that matter, whether the subject is friendship, families, or the love between a man and a woman.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended, March 28, 2004
This review is from: Life According To Lucy (Harlequin Flipside) (Mass Market Paperback)
Theirs is more than a power struggle between two strong personalities. Private investigators Harley Prince and Mac Gerard share a profound attraction - one she is not willing to act upon. Mac knows that he is in for the trouble of his life and he will break any rule to get Harley into bed. He thinks that a wild fling will satisfy his unbearable urge. But when an investigation brings them together twenty-four/seven, Mac gets more than he expected.

Harley unequivocally turns Mac down at every turn. She considers him a spoiled, rich boy and does not take him seriously. Eventually she yields, however, hoping that a night together will get him out of her system. Meanwhile, to catch a thief, Harley and Mac will have to go undercover, pretending to marry. But when the investigation is complete, someone has to risk their heart to learn if they can have a fling that will last a lifetime.

Author Jeanie London pens a delightful romp in WITH THIS FLING. Harley is a marvelous heroine with her lighthearted approach to affairs that sharply contrasts her professional image. Her determination to not yield to Mac gives him quite the run for his money. Mac knows his tactics are unfair, but will do anything to convince Harley to share her bed. A steamy, fun, sexy tale sure to please, WITH THIS FLING comes highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars amusing contemporary romance, January 31, 2004
This review is from: Life According To Lucy (Harlequin Flipside) (Mass Market Paperback)
Tired of his tenant's checks bouncing "all the way to San Antonio", Mr. Kepetsky evicts Lucy Lake. Though a bit embarrassed to see her worldly possession curbside, Lucy refuses to take the blame as it was not her fault she lost her job when the software company shut down and she spent more than she should shopping at the mall to cure her unemployment blues. Gardener Greg "bronzed muscles" Polhemus volunteers to help her move her stuff, but Lucy rejects his offer that leads her to reminiscences about her deceased mom always providing her advice. Her dad comes by and asks Lucy to come home and live with him.

At her father's home, two things quickly add to Lucy's feel of failure. Her dad's social life is so much greater than hers and her mom's garden is withering away. Lucy decides to get expert advice on the garden that she plans to save. She goes to Polhemus Gardens where she meets the owner Greg. He works in the dirt with her to save her mother's beloved rose garden and solves her other problem as they begin to fall in love.

Though Lucy is a flit, chick lit fans will enjoy this amusing contemporary romance as the heroine is likable and the hero is a knight in shining armor promising his beloved a rose garden. The lighthearted romp never quite takes itself seriously so that the audience will chuckle at Lucy's lament and value her remembrances of her cherished mom. Dad adds depth to a fun facetious farce.
