Raymond Moody

Raymond Moody, M.D., Ph.D. is the bestselling author of eleven books which have sold over 20 million copies. His seminal work, Life After Life, has completely changed the way we view death and dying and has sold over 13 million copies worldwide. His latest book is GLIMPSES OF ETERNITY: Sharing a Loved One's Passage from this Life to the Next.
Dr. Moody is the leading authority on the "near-death experience"--a phrase he coined in the late seventies. He is best known for his ground-breaking work on the near-death experience and what happens when we die. The New York Times calls Dr. Moody "the father of the near-death experience."
Dr. Moody has enlightened and entertained audiences all over the world for over three decades. He lectures on such topics as: Near Death Experiences, Death With Dignity, Life After Loss, Surviving Grief & Finding Hope, Reunions: Visionary Encounters With Departed Loved Ones, The Healing Power of Humor, The Loss of Children, The Logic of Nonsense, and Catastrophic Tragedies & Events causing collective grief response.
In addition to his writing and lecturing, he is in the private practice of philosophical counseling and consulting on dying. Dr. Moody also trains hospice workers, clergy, psychologists, nurses, doctors, and other medical professionals on matters of grief recovery and dying. He helps people to identify systems of support and to cope with their anxiety, grief, and loss through better understanding of mourning and bereavement.
Dr. Moody received his medical degree from the College of Georgia and his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Virginia where he also received his M.A. and B.A.
He is the recipient of many awards including the World Humanitarian Award and a bronze medal in the Human Relations category at the New York Film Festival for the movie version of Life After Life.
Dr. Moody is a frequent media guest and has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show three times, as well as on hundreds of other local and nationally syndicated programs such as MSNBC: Grief Recovery, Today, ABC's Turning Point, and hundreds more.

Paul Perry
Paul Perry is the co-author of four New York Times bestsellers, including Saved by the Light (which was made into a popular movie) and Evidence of the Afterlife. He has co-authored five books with Dr. Raymond Moody, including a memoir Paranormal, due to be published in February 2012. His books have been published in more than 30 languages around the world.
Paul is also a documentary filmmaker whose work has appeared on worldwide television. His best known film, Jesus, the Lost Years was first the subject of a book he wrote for Random House, which follows the trail believed to be used by the Holy Family as they fled into Egypt to escape the murderous soldiers of King Herod. He has produced and directed several other films, including one on 18th Century piracy in Madagascar that aired on History Channel in 2011.
His most recent work, Afterlife, explores mankind's most nagging question, What happens when we die? This and other questions about the Afterlife are scientifically explored through modern research into near-death experiences. Through interviews with noted researchers Raymond Moody, MD, PhD, and Jeffrey Long, MD, this documentary explores the evidence of the afterlife using insightful interviews with researchers, emotional case studies, and crisply done re-creations.
"NDEs are spiritual events of staggering magnitude and complexity that have the power to change our attitudes toward death and life" says director Paul Perry. "There are reasons people are transformed when they return from a brush with death, one of which is the confidence they gain in knowing that a fresh new world awaits our last heartbeat. Another, especially for the physically ill, is the discovery that we leave our body behind and continue on as spirits free of earthy pain."
Paul is a graduate of Arizona State University, Antioch University in Los Angeles, and a former fellow at the prestigious Gannett Center for Media Studies at Columbia University in New York City. He taught magazine writing at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, and was Executive Editor at American Health magazine, a winner of the National Magazine Awards for General Excellence. Since becoming a full-time writer, Paul has written or co-written more than 20 books on a variety of topics, including biography, health, medical science, and history.

This is a book review on "Life after Life" and the sequel "Reflections on Life After Life" by Dr. Raymond Moody, published by Mockingbird and Guide Post, copyright 1975.

It is an important note to read the introduction to this book. Dr. Moody explains that on one hand this is a book that describes research of over a hundred and fifty interviews from individual descriptions of near death experiences but also a personal overview of Dr. Moody`s thoughts and beliefs from their testimonies. The book is really two in one. The first book is a genuine explanation of what takes place when a person dies. The second book tells of new revelations of the importance of knowledge and judgment. Each book follows the recollections with explanations and questions people have regarding the findings of Dr. Moody. The final chapter tells the epilogue.

The first book begins with the Phenomenon of death. Chapter one covers the curiosity and taboo of the unknown regarding life after death. In today's time most of the world's mysteries have been solved or disclaimed. We humans love to take what we don't know and relate what we do know to established (schemes). The best scheme humans can use for death is sleeping. Yet, the idea of eternal sleep keeps us uneasy, our minds can't equate to never waking up. There seems to be a hush, hush on the subject of death in our society. Our culture believes that to speak of death means it will hunt you down and find you.

This book reels you in by divulging the untold mysteries of death through Dr. Moody's interviews with his patients. The stories are compiled to show similar sequential steps that take place when a person dies. It is reported that the first step after clinically dying is hearing the people around you state you are dead.

As a doctor (MD) and a scientist (Ph.D.) in neurosciences, it was with some resistance and skepticism that I listened to the audio-CD version of the book "Life after life" by Dr. Raymond A. Moody Jr. However, because I do not believe in an overall incompatibility between Science and Religion, I decided to listen to the CD anyway. I am extremely happy that I have listened to this CD; in the course of some 6 months I have reviewed the whole CD at least 3 times. I believe that Dr. Moody Jr. gives a very clear account of the near-death experiences of the subjects that he interviewed and I did not find any significant scientific misstep into the book. Although, at the book's end, it is possible for the reader to construe alternative explanations for the described near-death experiences and to interpret them as simple random fluctuations of the mind, this kind of alternative explanations only represent the nature of the Scientific investigation and of Religion experiences. Certain phenomena cannot me measured by Science and we are left only with the personal description of those who experienced them. However, this does not imply that they did not occur. It is my opinion that Dr. Moody Jr. took the necessary precautions against "fraud" or an "over-actively imagination" and I am left with the impression that the experiences described truly represent Spiritual phenomena.

I read this book after the death of my mother in 1990. She died after an excruciating fight with cancer that lasted 3 years. I was devastated. Having been raised and educated as a Catholic, I believed that after death - the soul went to Heaven or Hell according to how good or bad one was during life. My mother was a very good person during her life. However, I could not find peace of mind that my mother was "in a better place". After reading "Life after Life", I now feel assured that death doesn't mean the end. Here on earth we are spiritual beings having a human experience. I am convinced that we continue on and that as the book is titled there is "Life after Life"! Although I miss them, I am at peace with the deaths of my parents in 1990 and 1995, believing that they both live on! I highly recommend this book to anyone who has lost a loved one or who themselves are dealing with a terminal illness.

I am a doctor who has witnessed death and have been told by patients that have been rescuscitated of their death experiences. Imagine my surprise when I found that Raymond Moody has collected hundreds of accounts of death experiences and references the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead discussing similar encounters! This book is so comforting to those who are facing death or have lost their loved ones. No matter what religion, race, age; all have similar stories. I found this book fascinating.

I read this book at the recommendation of a counselor and was glad I read it. At the time, I didn't realize Moody had so many other (more recent books). This one is a good introduction to his other works which I have subsequently ordered. A good and easy read offered on Amazon at a reasonable price.

Book not as advertized. Pages very yellowed, cover torn along with the first few pages at the binding. I would never recommend a company that is deceptive, selling merchandise that even the thrift stores would reject.

This was a very good study of life after death. It is so full of information that I will have to hear it several more times in order to understand more about it. It is very well organized and Dr. Moody speaks very clearly so that when I am in the middle of traffic and there are street noises, I can still hear every word without noise interference. I have read and heard several afterdeath experience reports from other sources and they all complement each other. They have some things in common, although the stories vary greatly in the way that they happened. Very interesting subject.
