Glad to see Amy kick it out of the ballpark again. I loved "This is the Life" and though there were 3 songs I liked on her second Album, it just did not compare to her first. While I've only listened to this once, I love it. I can tell that over the next few weeks I will fall in love with many of these songs and will be playing them endlessly. Amy's a true artist. I love the electric guitar undertones throughout this album. Reminds me of some of her live performances. Thanks Amy for not dishing out a bunch of trash as many other "one hit wonders" have.

In the summer of 2007 when I heard Amy Mac's first album "This Is the Life", I couldn't believe how great it was, nor could I believe why nobody seemed to have heard of Amy Macdonald. Times have changed, and expectations were extremely high for her third studio album. I had hoped for songs similar to those in "This Is the Life", a folky feel, catchy tunes, rousing choruses, hooks and melodies, stories told with authenticity and charm,... plus something new. I am not disappointed. The something new is contained in tracks such as "The Furthest Star", "Across the Nile" and the tear jerking "Left that Body Long Ago", tear jerking as it portrays an experience unfortunately that many of us share. The opening track "4th of July" sets the tone for the entire album, a song with a wonderful upbeat folky Celtic feel about visiting New York City. There are many highlights in this album, each song stands up on it's own. Buy this album, get in the car, put it in the CD player, and then cruise to a beautiful place.

I originally bought this album via iTunes. I liked it SO MUCH, I also wanted a physical copy so I could have the lyrics booklet and a CD to play in my car, which does not have a jack for an MP3 player. So, yes, I spent double. Her first two CDs were outstanding. This one is even better. Her songs are upbeat and fun without sounding like every other pop song in existence. You get just enough of her fabulous Scottish accent to make it fun. Highly recommended. Buy this.

I have loved Amy Macdonald since I first heard her - years ago, when the only place I could find her CD was on Amazon. I still like her first album the best, but enjoy how she has matured her style. Her lyrics are so refreshing. She has a really clean and pleasing sound.

Great album, I highly recommend this album. If you like the Corrs or Adele you have to love Amy MacDonald.

For the 3rd album, Amy Macdonald doesn't let down at all. While this review is for "Life in a Beautiful Light," I would recommend getting the deluxe version if you can find it - it contains the instrumental versions of 4th of July, Across The Nile, The Furthest Star, and Slow It Down (as well as the sing-a-long versions - ONLY the instrumental, without Amy singing at all...if you think you can do it better.) And if you get the CD album rather than the MP3 version, you get the "hidden track" at the end of "In The End." So buy the CD (deluxe), and rip it yourself...

Compared with other recent non-Amy albums and songs being released, Life in a Beautiful Light is easily a 5-star album. However, if we had to rate albums against others from the same artist...this one tied for second. This Is The Life was one of the best albums, start to finish, that I've ever heard. A Curious Thing was great (thought not as great as her first), but some songs were a bit overproduced - No Roots, for instance: I want to hear Amy, not all the instruments over the top of her. This album is also great, but I would have to rate it about the same as A Curious Thing. Life In A Beautiful Light has more "this song will forever be on my playlist" (singles) tracks , whereas A Curious Thing has a bit more diversity with lyrics and style.

Overall, if you're new to Amy, get this CD and her other 2, too. If you already know Amy, you already know that you're going to buy this album so stop wasting time reading this review and get to listenin'...

Highly recommended... and maybe if enough people in the US buy the album, Amy will feel a tiny bit obligated to put on a show across the pond. (Preferably the US west coast - Come on, Amy!)
