From Booklist

Color is the place where our brain and the universe meet, according to the great painter Cézanne, one of an array of artists and writers quoted throughout this radiant celebration of the beauty and power of color. Colors have meaning. This is the book’s first sentence, and, indeed, colors do define place and era, denote status and affiliation, and trigger emotions, memories, and desire. All this is evident in the 245 photographs from around the world gathered so judiciously here, striking images by both renowned professional photographers and amateurs who submitted their work to National Geographic’s web feature My Shot. Entire chapters are devoted to specific colors, and the photographs range from close-ups to aerial views. Nature photographs are intriguingly paired with pictures of the human-made, such as a silvery fish’s gleaming eye next to a shiny, curving museum facade; neon lights juxtaposed with a field of tulips. From seascapes to cityscapes, animals to children, these prismatic, brilliantly composed photographs are exuberant works of inquiry and art, adding up to a book of awe and inspiration. --Donna Seaman

I bought two of these for my nieces, each of which has two small children. I thought it would be a nice way for Mom to help the kiddies learn about color, and about the world around. It worked, both of them loved it and so did their kids. The photographs in this book are superlative, making it a great family coffee table book as well. A photographer (which I am) could learn a lot about using color from these photos. A winner in every way.

This is a gorgeous book full of a variety of photos rich colors. It is printed in Italy ( not China). If you enjoy photography, I highly recommend this book. It is not small so it's a feast for the eyes.
I took off one point because I feel there should have been info on the type of camera used, the lens & if photoshop was used. For those of us beginners in photography, it would help to learn as we are oooing and aaahing over the photos.
I still would recommend this book highly for the quality of paper and the sharpness of color. It's one of the best book that National Geographic has and IS NOT PRINTED IN CHINA.
the Italian printers have done a nice job.
Buy it for the lovely photography.

Outstanding collection of photograph that I wish I would have taken. Beautifully printed but unfortunately the middle of the book gets in the way on some of them.

Ordered this book for my boyfriend. He absolutely loved it. The photos were amazing as expected. Some description and story behind them but it is all brief.

This is a heavy but relatively small (about 10" x 10") book. The photos are from the National Geographic archive. There is a list at the end of photos you can purchase.
There are interesting descriptions of colour before each section and quotes within. Blue is calm and is sacred in every religion. The photos are large and many are not the run of the mill, but instead are extreme close ups and out of the ordinary views of people, places and creatures. The colours are all stunning.

Many times the labeling for the photos are several pages away. Granted it allows for 2 page spreads of the photos, but it still causes you to turn back and forth, especially because the identifications are sometimes for previous and sometimes for following pages. The photographs are identified by photographer and place with a sentence describing it.

The colours used are; blue, silver, orange, unseen- optics, green, brown, yellow, purple, gold, red and white.
This is a book photographers and those with an artistic sense would appreciate.

The first thing that surprised me about this book is the length, over 500 pages. It has something to offer every photographer. There are even a few black-and-white images. The subject matter is global in scope and varied, ranging from people to landscapes, architecture, anything with eye-catching color. The images date from older hand-colored ones right up to the present. While much of the work is from National Geographic photographers, there are many images from non-staff amateur and professional photographers as well.

This is an excellent book to learn how to see photographic opportunities in unexpected places. It opened me up to looking for shots in ways I hadn't thought about before. I recommend it to anyone looking to improve their ability to make images.
