5.0 out of 5 stars From the producer of We Are The World, May 27, 1999

and Hands Across America comes a remarkable book. Life is indeed a contact sport, and Kragen shows anyone willing to follow the program how to make contact. Inspired by some housepainters in Des Moines who took him at his word when he said the same techniques that worked for Kenny Rogers would work for them, the secrets for surmounting seemingly impossible obstacles to success are laid out here in plain sight, plain language, ready for anyone who is ready to learn to succeed without massive change. I was fortunate enough to be invited to audit a class at UCLA where Kragen occasionally teaches this material, and to say it changed my life is an understatement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Guy, June 20, 2009
This review is from: Life Is a Contact Sport: Ten Great Career Strategies That Work (Paperback)
I took a class at Art Center with Ken. Basics of Interplanetary Flight. He is an amazing, humble guy. Had his own observatory. I found out he wrote a book through the teacher. The book is great. Very uplifting and very helpful. He is such an honest, all around nice guy so I would way more listen to him than some big smiley agro EST guy.

4.0 out of 5 stars how to promote yourself or your business, November 27, 2008
The best thing about Kragen's book is that he gives lots of real life examples of how he promoted people like Kenny Rogers and Trisha Yearwood, and how he created the campaigns for We are the World and Hands Across America. His enthusiasm for his subject makes it an enjoyable read. The format (presenting 10 basic career strategies) makes it easy to read.
The only thing that's a very slight negative about this book is that although he keeps saying that anyone can adapt his principles to their own life, the reader can't help thinking: well, if they have lots of money they can. All of his campaign examples involve very wealthy people with lots of cash to throw into promotion.
Still, I would recommend this book for the marketing strategies he itemizes, and for his enthusiasm for and experience in his area of expertise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! a must read, December 19, 2011

Ken Kragen's book, Life is a Contact Sport, is a must read for authors, speakers, and leaders who want to know the secrets to think backwards from your goals to supersize success. Ken's ten point strategy system will help readers take an event, launch or goal to a new level of success through building relationships, sharing influence, and by expanding opportunities. I particularly enjoyed reading about how Ken utilized the Magic of Threes to turn an event, media opportunity, business success or launch into a series of events. This is a book that I know I will refer to often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Is a Contact Sport, August 22, 2011
This review is from: Life Is a Contact Sport: Ten Great Career Strategies That Work (Paperback)
This book has been sitting on my bookshelf for a while. You know the feeling, one of those books you'll get to one of these days. Well one of these days came and I am so glad it did. I started reading this book and looked forward to reading the next chapters. In fact, I got up bright an early and finished it today. Why do I like it so much? Kragen uses very simple stories to explain his theory about how to develop a career. You will recognize the names that he promoted, however, he constantly brings back the tips to careers like a house painter.

There is not a person that will not benefit from this book. Lately, I have been giving away books after I have read them--not this one....I'm keeping it for a reference for building my own profession--writing.

Ken Kragen's chapter on the Law of 3 is worth getting the book just for that. This book helped me to think bigger (and I am already a big thinker!). I took actions outside of my comfort zone because Life is a Contact Sport is totally inspirational. It's also timeless and it's principles are applicable to any industry.
