GUARANTEED TO GET YOUR PARTY STARTED!!!,
This review is from: Life Is a Dance (Audio CD)
This cd is a wonderful mix of not only the best of Chaka's hits, but the best of Chaka's voice. All of the songs have been remixed with a lot of bass, funk, and Chaka's vocals sent into chambers that blow the top of your head off and occasionally echo back.
The opener "Life Is A Dance" perfectly describes the hot mood within it. "I Know You, I Live You" goes to the max. Far more artistically arranged than the original! The wildly funky "This Is My Night" rocks with additional keyboard and percussion programming. "Eye To Eye" is a hot remix of a great song that becomes over 8 minutes of pulsating dance number. "Fate" is transformed into a cooking production number. The infectious percussion in "I'm Every Woman" coupled with the orchestral strings catapults this number way beyond the original version! And it's over 8 minutes long as well! "Clouds" blows a thunderous stormy arrangement right into a steamy 7.40 minutes of WOW!! The finale of "I Feel For You" far surpasses the original hit that everyone loves so much. When you end with this song, you will hit repeat and start the whole cd over again! This one is a must for every Chaka fan. You will want to play it again and again!!

Underrated remix project,

The remixes done are wonderful and 1989 was a great year to pick for remixes for Chaka Khan. If remixes had been done now, it probably wouldn't even be worth the purchase. Pretty much all new remixes base themselves on the repetitive techno beat, which I find takes away the funkiness of the original production and mood of the song. This was also a good release because these are urban remixes. These are club/street songs that work perfectly for Chaka Khan. There are also some rare gems on here that are hard to find on CD anywhere else. "Slow Dancin'" is from her 1982 self-titled album that won a Grammy for best R&B album. I find it strange that since it won a Grammy that it's currently her rarest album to find now in her catalog of music. It would've been awesome if a remix of "What Cha' Gonna Do For Me?" was included. That would've been slammin' baby!

This one is a keeper. I bought it in vinyl, cassette, and now CD. If you are looking for energy music, this ol'school grooves with the best that today offers. "Eye to Eye" is my favorite and never fails to energize me. "I'm Every Woman" is a must listen and smacks Whitney down. Great music.

LIFE IS A DANCE IS A DEFINITIVE COLLECTIOM FOR ALL RUFUS AND CHAKA KHAN FANS OUT THERE. THIS REMIX PROJECT IS SATURATED WITH MORE SOUL AND FUNK THAN GEORGE CLINTON CAN SYNTHESIZE INTO THE ATOMIC DOG. WITH THE CD, SOME OF MY FRIENDS HAVE LEARNED HOW TO DANCE ALL OVER AGAIN BECAUSE YOU CAN'T JUST SIT AND MOVE YOUR HEAD TO THE GUITAR RIFFS AND DRUM GROOVES, YOU HAVE TO GET UP AND WORK IT OUT. ALTHOUGH I LOVE THE CD FORMAT OF LIFE IS A DANCE, OWNING THE CASSETTE TAPE FORMAT ALLOWS ME TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL ALBUM VERSION OF "CLOUDS", WHICH I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR SINCE THE LATE 80S. BEING A SOPRANO AND PERFORMER AT AN EARLY AGE, I PERFORMED CLOUDS AT THE AGE OF NINE YEARS OLD IN AN ARTS SCHOOL TALENT SHOW, AND TOOK HOME THE 1ST PLACE PRIZE. YES, I AM GLAD TO HEAR "CLOUDS" AGAIN AFTER MY FATHER'S ORIGINAL VERSION WAS DESTROYED YEARS AGO. LIFE IS A DANCE IS A MUSIC PROTEGE AND A MUSIC FAN'S COLLECTOR'S ITEM FOR YEARS TO COME.

most of the remixes on this cd sound really out of date, instead of all this remixes they should have made a compilation with the original full length 12" mixes, especially for "This is my night" wich original mix is far better then the remix (and not available on cd until ....???). Many great remixer names are involved in this project, but in 2007 the original 12 inch versions still sound better!!!.

Chaka Khan Life is a Dance Remix,
This review is from: Life Is a Dance (Audio CD)
Chaka Khan has done a remix of many of her tunes that where above outstanding during the disco dance fever of the 1970's. However, I have recently purchased a CD from Amazon.com called "Chaka Khan, Life is a Dance: The Remix Project". If rock pop music can be called classical then this particular creation of Chaka Khan and her musician associates can be truly considered classical. One can not merely sit down and keep still while this music is playing, in particular if you are in a dancing mood in the first place, celebrating or just feel good and want to dance. In the same instance, the remix is so skillfully directed and produced, if you just wanted to sit down and really enjoy this music for its composition as music this kind of attitude would be highly applicable as well.
