This is a highly rated album according to official website. It is true that it has magnificent reviews. I suspect & feel this may primarily be for production value [T-Bone Burnett & his engineers invented CODE system that creates better sound than the current CD format, CD and DVD music versions using CODE are therefore first in the music industry with this release!] & change of direction in music by John Mellencamp : it is mellow & jazzy (country rock feel). John Mellencamp wanted to sound like Woody Guthrie, his hero. I was expecting songs to be strong/sound like those from "Lonesome Jubilee" or "Cutting Heads" albums. He is continuing were he left of with "Freedom's Road". The change in Mellencamp's music is said to continue in the forthcoming album : "No better than this", where the music & singing will take even more different direction. Notable tracks are "My Sweet Love", "Longest Days" & "If I Die Sudden". The package has 2 versions of the album (CD & DVD in CODE system), first in the music industry with no extra charge & Deluxe Tour Edition also include 8 live tracks CD recorded in 2008, all from "Life Death Love And Freedom". I would recommend the Deluxe Tour Edition for the real fan, otherwise just buy ordinary album version instead!
