the drums on this album sound weird due to the triggers used but everything esle is great. the vocalist has a really cool voice that sounds like a mix between industriall and punk and it works well with the music. the gray man is one of the best songs i have ever heard. and its based on albert fish the serial killer.

When you think of The Oval Portrait, an unusual story of fright may come to my mind, or in this case a talented young band with nowhere to go but down(to hell that is, hahahahaha). The 13 scorching tracks on their debut full length "Life in Death" cover topics from infamous serial killers, to romantic destruction, to even the depths of the zombie insurrection. Tracks such as "can't you do anything for me", "barnabus collins...", and "from my cold dead hands" invoke such energy and passion in the listener that it seems as if the band is pulling the person into their spinning world with them. They even bring it all together with an entrancing instrumental featuring haunting piano from vince of murder by death. All in all the album is best defined as an inspiring musical collaboration, that could come from no one else than five best friends. Buy this cd today and listen to it in bed in your pajamas with the covers over your head for the effect, but do not be fooled, this is just the beginning for a band that will offer vast amounts of musical talent for the future.

ps...i missed the rising action, but it rocks
