5.0 out of 5 stars Roger Welsch Rekindles Fond Memories, November 13, 2004
This review is from: A Life With Dogs (Hardcover)
Having seldom been without a dog in our own lives, my husband and I were recalling the antics of many of our dogs from the book's beginning to end. This fun heartwarming book from a true dog lover, richly enhanced by the artwork of Linda Welsch, is one of those that is practically impossible to put down until it is finished. We have enjoyed Mr. Welsch's writings for many years and are very proud to add this book to our long shelf of other dog books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love dogs? You'll love this book, October 25, 2004
By
This review is from: A Life With Dogs (Hardcover)
There are a lot of books on dogs out there. Some are worthless, some are truely useful and meaningful (like Suzanne Clothier's 'Bones Would Rain From The Sky').

This book is just completely enjoyable. You get a genuine feel for Mr. Welsch's love and regard for dogs, and for their love and regard for us. The frequency of laughs is no small benefit either.

As the official representative of Richard Lee Anderson, Jr...[the California Whiskey Heeler of Page 211] AND recipient of Roger's forgiveness...I have to tell you, after reading this book you'll probably want to trade your cat in on a dog, head to your Humane Society for more dogs or adopt your first.

Dogs are good for your soul, Roger's books are great reading and Linda Welsch's illustrations are heart warming to behold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful!!!, August 1, 2006
This review is from: A Life With Dogs (Hardcover)
This heart-warming work is all a book of doggy stories should be!!! Sometimes I laughed, sometimes I cried, but was always moved to thought by his deep insights into the canine mind. His liberal philosophies and mystical religious tastes aside, this book should warm the soul of all who have ever owned a mutt.

A Life With Dogs

Roger Welsch, of "A Postcard From Nebraska" fame, has given us a well written, entertaining look at his love affair with the dogs that have been part of his life.

A "Folklorist" by training, Mr Welsch knows how to spin a tale that involves his reader, and makes that reader reflect upon the animals that have been part of their lives.

"My Life With Dogs" should be part of everyone's collection. Amazon is a great place to purchase this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Roger Welsch book ever!, March 27, 2011

This review is from: A Life With Dogs (Hardcover)
As a die hard Roger Welsch fan and an avid dog lover, I have to say this is my favorite of all his books. It may even be my favorite non-fiction dog book ever. I couldn't breathe from laughing so hard, and the inevitable "sad chapter" about dogs dying is in the middle of the book, followed by more antics, so you finish the book with a smile on your face. I, for one, appreciate that very much!

Add to the wonderful and hilarious anecdotes Linda Welsch's beautiful illustrations, done in a sort of classic brown and white nostalgic style, and you've got the perfect match of words and imagery that any dog lover, or any type of animal lover, for that matter, is sure to enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Nebraskan, November 11, 2009

This review is from: A Life With Dogs (Hardcover)
Being mostly a Nebraskan myself and having had 10 dogs in my life over the past 60+ years and since my sister was one of Prof. Welsch's students in Lincoln and since I have read the book (I must say that I read three-fourths of it at the "first sitting"!!), I am now going to get a couple of copies, pass them around to my "dog friends", have them read and sign the book (Roger autograghed the copy our son has!!) and pass the book to our next "dog friend" who would enjoy it!! Even if you DON'T like dogs, well, you can read this and find out why the rest of us do!! A Life with Dogs is for you!!
