Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile

Written at the same time as the filming of the PBS series, this book surveys the animal kingdom of planet Earth from its simplest single-cell microorganism to its most complex life form--humans. It seems odd that Sir David Attenborough isn't reading the book as his voice is familiar to viewers of the series, yet Ruthven is an acclaimed narrator on British radio. He has a typical, clipped voice and sounds much like Attenborough, a plus for this recording. A few uncorrected editing mistakes mar the production. The production should be seamless and sound flawless, and listeners should demand this level of attention to production values. E.F. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine

As usual David Attenborough delivers. This book is beautifully written and has breathtaking pictures. Attenborough makes any subject interesting and easy to read. I have learned so much from his writting, and have experienced worlds beyond my reach through the pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, November 2, 2003
By
Hayley D. (Sydney, NSW, Australia) - See all my reviews
A really interesting and informative book by a wonderful author, who has a real talent in writing. I found it simple and easy, (in a good way) and was sad to turn the last pages. It also has beautiful pictures.
