If you are taking vitamin D, this is the best vitamin K to take with it (IMHO).

Here is a side-by-side comparison of nine leading Vitamin K-2 supplements: Innovix Labs Full SpectrumVitamin K2, Nutrigold Vitamin K2 (MK-7) Gold, Doctor's Best Natural Vitamin K2, Life Extension Super K with Advanced K2 Complex, Now Foods Vitamin K-2 (MK-4), Now Foods MK-7 Vitamin K-2, Jarrow Formulas MK-7, Solgar Natural Vitamin K2 (MK-7), Thorne Research Vitamin K2 Liquid, and Carlson Labs Vitamin K-2 (MK-7).

Vitamin K is one of the fat-soluble vitamins, along with A, D and E. There are two types of Vitamin K, namely K1 and K2. And within K2, there are several forms:
* Vitamin K1 (Phyloquinones)
* Vitamin K2 (Menaquinones)
* MK-4
* MK-7
* MK-8 (not available in supplement form)
* MK-9 (not available in supplement form)
* MK-10 (not available in supplement form)

Vitamin K1 is found in plants and is essential for blood clotting and coagulation. Supplementing is usually not necessary since the body recycles K1. It also blocks the effect of heart medications like Coumadin or Warfarin. Vitamin K2 can also have some effect on these drugs, so talk to your doctor about this.

Food sources of K2
Vitamin K2 is neither recycled nor stored by the body. Unless you eat Vitamin K2 rich foods regularly, you will become deficient in a matter of days. Making matters worse, it is almost impossible to get Vitamin K2-rich foods at the grocery store.

The richest food sources are fatty goose liver, natto, and fermented cod liver oil. Much lower levels are found in sauerkraut, old world hard cheeses, caviar, organ meats, and grass-fed butter. Eggs from pastured chicken also have a little K2. Regular butter and cheese have very low levels of K2.

Why is K2 important?

This supplement contains 1000 mcg K1, 1000 mcg K2 as MK-4, and 100 mcg K2 as MK-7, for a total of 2100 mcg or 2625% of the RDA. Some preliminary studies suggest that K2/MK-4 and K2/MK-7 promote bone strength and may be helpful in the treatment of osteoporosis. This is one of the few supplements that contains MK-4, which is used as an osteoporosis treatment in Japan, although at higher doses than contained here (~45 mg/day). MK-7 is made from fermented soybeans (natto), which may be an issue for some people. Vitamin K interacts with blood thinning medications and the product label also warns that it contains tree nuts (coconuts). The serum half-life of MK-7 is several days whereas the half-life of MK-4 is only several hours, so optimal dosing of the latter may involve several doses a day (in which case one might want to consider Thorne Research Vitamin K2 liquid).

My 12 year old use to tease me about my yellow teeth. I started this with Vitamin D3 and magnesium, PLUS eating well (low carb Primal plus some whole fat dairy) and within a month my teeth became white. My child agrees that my teeth are no longer yellow.

Heads up for anyone who is soy or estrogen sensitive.
I purchased this brand as it stated "contains No soybeans" and I am estrogen sensitive. After taking it for a little over a week I noticed continually worsening soreness and pain in my breasts. I contacted the manufacturer and was advised that one of the K2 ingredients did come from Natto (which comes from fermented soybeans) and would be a phytoestrogen.
I am sure the product is great for anyone that is not estrogen sensitive. I did like the small size of the capsule. They were also very nice on the phone for advice. I did not buy this direct from their company and so cannot return it for a refund.

Dr Sinatra (cardiologist and author) calls this the most important Vitamin of the decade. It helps carry calcium out of the arteries (plaque) and into the bones and teeth.

Finally a vitamin supplement with NO additives, fillers, magnesium stearate, soy lecithin or other chemical by products. "LifeExtension" and "Pure Encapsulations" are the top two manufacturers on my list for "pure," high quality vitamin supplements.

if you are trying to take Vitamin K-2 to help with osteopenia or osteoporosis, then this is the product I recommend for my patients. It has both MK-4 and MK-7 forms of vitamin K2 (fast acting and long acting) as well as Vitamin K1. I have never had anybody complain of side effects. WARNING: If you are on coumadin or warfarin, this product will reduce the effect of your coumadin or warfarin.....check with your doctor before you take this.

Have you started on the road to osteoporosis? Do you have trouble with taking calcium? This is a product that has no calcium, but if one takes it for a year, and has a Dexa scan to compare, will strengthen your bones without the dangers that calcium has for you personally. A cousin of mine took this for a year and her Dexa shows that her bones have strengthened. I have calcium absorption problems, so I ran to the computer and ordered these capsules. It's only a few weeks, so I'll have to order a few more jars, and see what happens after a year, but from what I've read, it should help a lot. The capsules are small, and taste sweet. That alone is an advantage!
