About Life Fitness
What started as one man's pursuit to improve his own physical condition, eventually turned into a global fitness revolution. That man was Keene P. Dimick, the mastermind behind the legendary Lifecycle® exercise bike. The story of Life Fitness began when two young entrepreneurs, Ray Wilson and Augie Nieto, saw the promise of Dr. Dimick’s invention. Even though it was slightly ahead of its time, they believed the Lifecycle exercise bike could help generations of athletes, trainers, exercisers, and people everywhere live happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.

Wilson and Nieto bought the rights to the Lifecycle bike from Dr. Dimick, perfected it, and sold it out of a motor home to health clubs across America. Despite the overwhelming odds and initial unpopularity of the Lifecycle exercise bike, the two passion-filled pioneers turned a two-man operation and a seemingly impossible vision into a prosperous reality. Along the way, they shaped the future of Life Fitness as well as the fitness industry, bringing cardiovascular training into the mainstream and helping ignite the health club boom.

Today, Life Fitness is the global leader in designing and manufacturing a full line of reliable, high quality fitness equipment for commercial and consumer use. It is the number one brand of fitness equipment in health clubs worldwide.

It's a thumping grinding piece of junk.

In less that two months, one of the motors malfunctioned and the machine cannot be used due to the disparate stride lengths.

This machine is an overpriced piece of junk. There are electrical wires that are run through the small arm that connects to the stride motor unit. Due to the design of the machine, these wires get flexed (bent) with every revolution of the machine. If you use the machine regularly, one of the wires in the harness will break resulting in an error code.

During the first year that you own the machine, they will send someone to fix it. How do they fix it? They replace the wire -- a 2 hr job. Several months later, another wire will break, if you are still within the 1 yr labor warranty, they will come and replace it again.

But they are not actually fixing the machine, they are just replacing an improperly designed part which will fail over and over and over again until you are sick of it not working and stop using it.

Considering what this machine costs, they should figure out how to actually fix the root cause of the problem so that it does not keep happening over and over again.

As it is right now, there is no fix. So don't buy this machine if you plan on using it.

Very nice machine with great program features, two user profiles permanently stored, a great remote heart rate monitor and a ton of variety in workout modes, stride length, and resistance. My wife and I got tired of dumping money at gyms we couldn't get to and decided to make the investment in a top line eliptical (since than and free weights were mostly what we use at the gym anyway) and a bench with dial-a-weights. My wife uses this machine daily and I use it about 3-4 times a week.

Ive had this machine for 2 years now, don't know what the negative reviews are about the durability. I bought the floor model from my fitness store as well, for about $1k off. The store delivered and assembled. Never needed a service call. Quiet machine, it sits in the room next to the baby's room and I can work out in it while she naps with no problem.

The main question when buying an elliptical is how the machine fits you. Both my wife and I prefer the rear flywheel style ellipticals, we don't like the front flywheel style. The variable stride means the x8 fits us both andits been a great addition.

I've had the X8 for about a year now and haven't had any issues. The whisper technology is extremely quiet. I do like the advanced console and the many different workouts when you set to random. It's never the same! I'm an owner of other Life Fitness products such as their G7 gym. Again, absolutely no problems with that. I had an X1 for 3 years prior to my upgrade to the X8 and again NOT ONE SINGLE ISSUE. I've never had to have any of my LifeFitness products serviced. I find it strange that some of these people are having such problems. Seems like they may have purchased from an unreliable company which sold them the lemons. I've never had one problem with any of my LifeFitness products.

I use my Lifefitness X8 at least 5 to 6 days per week for at least an hour per day. I did have to have one service call because it started making a little noise inside the back drum area as I used it (not all the time, just sometimes). But the Life Fitness tech was great, he came and examined it then came back again with the parts. I could even use it while we waited for the parts to come in. I love this machine. I have been using it for over 9 months and I have not had any of the problems everyone is complaining about. I have tried all the brands at numerous gyms and decided upon this Life Fitness X8 because it was thinner than the gym model. Really Life Fitness is the only one I would even consider purchasing (after having used numerous other brands). I have no affiliation with Life Fitness at all, I just love their equipment. I own their Lemond Exercise bike and the X8 Elliptical and would not hesitate to purchase them again. I used the X7 elliptical as a loaner for 2 months while my X8 was on backorder. It was very nice too. I would definitely recommend this elliptical machine to anyone.

I sell Lifefitness as well as many other brands. Any elliptical with either adjustable stride or incline is more likely to have issues. In order to get versatility, you sacrifice having to deal with more moving parts. That's why Lifefitness gives a 7 year parts warranty to give some piece of mind. I've had just as many issues with Precor and Cybex, but at least Lifefitness is a more stable company. The X8 is a good machine overall, but my preference is the Club series elliptical by LF.If you like the feel of Lifefitness ellipticals and want versatility, the X8 is a very good choice! As I said, every manufacturer will have problems. If I can give any advice, it would be to make sure you purchase from a legitimate dealer. Research the company your buying from. Make sure they don't 3rd party the service and deliveries. So many people will go to some online company and have a product shipped to save a few bucks. No matter which high end elliptical you choose, it will usually last many years, and it will usually need service at some point.

I purchased this unit and have thus far had to have 4 separate service calls. two on the electrical, two on parts that have broken. Stay away from this unit, it is a lemon.
