Bright, but cranking duration is unimpressive,

This review is from: Life Gear LIGHT3D30R Quad-Power Light3D Rugged Edition, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is more of a spotlight/worklight that a camping-type lantern. It DOES throw a bright light in one 'spot-like/flashlight' pattern if you keep all the LED's facing in one direction (they're movable). But even after 30 minutes of cranking (at slow-to-moderate speed), I only got approximatly 20 minutes of useable light. I'm hoping that with the AC adapter I've sent-for from LifeGear, I will get a longer light duration. (It also runs on 3 XAAA battreies). By the way, using only 1/3 of the LED's gives almost as much light as using all of them...so using only 1/3 of the LED's 'might' give a longer light duration. I'll test it once I get the AC adapter from LifeGear. There is, however, one useful purpose for which this light will comes in handy. As I said, it IS bright (for a short duration, when cranked.) But if you combine it with an item sold on Amazon...the "Stage Ninja SBL-702 Scorpion Series Sound Booth Light Holder"...and put in batteries in the Light3D, you will have an excellent 'positional' worklight for working on your car's engine at night. The Stage Ninja SBL-702 Scorpion Series Sound Booth Light Holder is made to hold D cell-width flashlights, and the LifeGear Light 3D is a 'tad' wider than a D cell flashlight diameter. But with a little effort and finess, the Stage Ninja SBL-702 Scorpion Series Sound Booth Light Holder will clamp around the LifeGear light, and allow you to project a very bright area light into any area of your engine compartment...hands free. But go easy when you squezze the Light 3D into the Stage Ninja SBL-702 Scorpion Series Sound Booth Light Holder 'clamp'...too much stretching of the clamp could crack the clamp's plastic...should it be slightly ill-formed. So, don't say I didn't warn you. In place of the Stage Ninja SBL-702 Scorpion Series Sound Booth Light Holder, you can always use the clamp arm from one of those $6-$8 metal clamp lights that Amazon sells...it it should work almost as well, but just won't be as flexible. [Follow-up-One year later: I decided to place regular alkaline batteries in the unit, rather than be bothered with cranking it when I needed it (for roadside emergencies). But I DID 'crank it up' one last time, and put it in my car's trunk for storage...and forgot about it. Then, almost exactly one year later, I decided to test the 'charge-holding ability' of the cranking I did a year prior. So, I removed the alkaline batteries, and turned on the switch...and amazingly, it projected its full light for the full duration of time as described above. In other words, it susprisingly held its 'crank charge' for a full year.
