5.0 out of 5 stars With "Life In General", both punk rock and MxPx shine
The trouble with lots of pop-punk bands and their releases these days is that the songs have little variety to offer from one to the next. That said, MxPx, in its best album to date, is an exception to the rule. Plenty of variety abounds this 17-track treasure chest of power punk. 3.0 out of 5 stars Eh.....
I am a huge MxPx fan, but this album just isn't all that good. It only has a few good songs(Middlename, Chick magnet, Do your feet hurt, New york to nowhere, thats about it) and the rest is just repetitive cheesy pop. All in all, this cd is mediocre, and i know the band is capable of more, so save your money and buy one of their better efforts.

The trouble with lots of pop-punk bands and their releases these days is that the songs have little variety to offer from one to the next. That said, MxPx, in its best album to date, is an exception to the rule. Plenty of variety abounds this 17-track treasure chest of power punk. If you like pop punk or melodic punk and haven't heard MxPx, prepare to fall in love with their sweet guitars and ultra-catchy melodies. There's also plenty of variety in drumbeats--hardcore OR slower pace--MxPx isn't limited to one or the other. "Middle Name", "Move to Bremerton", "Doin' Time", "Chick Magnet", "Southbound", and "Destroyed By You" are just a few of the great songs on this must-have CD for MxPx fans...or punk/rock/pop fans in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think this is a very good CD. Definetly worth getting., June 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Life in General (Audio CD)
This CD is very good. It has 17 tracks. All very good. In case you didn't know, MxPx is a Christian punk rock band. Compared to some of their other albums, Teenage Politics for instance, it's basicly the same kind of music. In this album they sing more about life in general. Hence the name. Some of the main things they sing about are girls, their hometown Bremerton, and of course, growing up. As in Teenage Politics, they also sing a lot about government and politics. There is no swearing or crude language in this CD. Don't let the mohawked hair or the earings fool you into thinking that they are stupid teens trying to get public attention. At first you may think they sound exactly like Green Day, but MxPx's lyrics are worth listening to, unlike Green Day's.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you don't mind Christian pop punk this cd is awesome!, July 12, 2003

If you like bands like Blink 182, and New Found Glory, you'll love this CD. This is MxPx at their best. It's pop punk, and there is none of that fake stuff they tend to do, where they try to be all hard. You can sing along with this entire CD and never get tried of it. MxPx is still a good band but nothing is better than Life in general. Sure it's user-friendly punk, but it's still REALLY good. Sure it's Christian rock but it's not preachy, like their old stuff, and it's not too cheesy. There are some great underline messages in all the songs like Do your feet hurt, which is about being in love but also about waiting until you are married before losing your virginity. So if you don't have a big problem with Christian rock or Pop Punk, get this CD, it totally rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars I have to agree, this CD is their best...., April 11, 2003
This review is from: Life in General (Audio CD)
I own 9 MXPX CDs and have to agree with most of the reviewers that say it's their best. I love "Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo," and "Let it Happen" - well, ok, I love them all, but just about EVERY song on this disc is hard and fast and raw. Yuri is pounding the life out of the drums and Mike is belting out lyrics like he's not using a mic. I'd have to say that if you don't own any MXPX CDs this is a good one to start with. If, however, you already have some but not this one, then this is a MUST OWN since you'll find it will re-energize your love for this band. Also check out their side project "Cootees" and certainly the hidden gem of a band - "Slick Shoes," very similar to MXPX.

Thanks to Mr. Tommy O'Toole from Carlisle, UK for that lovely bit of hate speech. MXPX is a great band, I pray for the day people can see through their own political biases and accept good music for what it is. (Real men drink coffee, anyhow.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool C.D (or casette tape, or vinyl record), January 30, 2000
This review is from: Life in General (Audio CD)
This is one of MxPx's best recordings. This CD definately has some of the best sounds produced by this group. All of the songs have a good beat and understandable lyrics. Although it dousn't have very many references to Christ or God like they've had in their previous recordings, it is still a good CD. Also, the lyrics to the songs are clean compared to many of the songs people may hear in today's punk music. The less 'hardcore' sound is definately more catchy and enjoyable. A must have for any collection whether you like Christian music, punk, rock, country, pop, R&B, Rap, hip-hop, Nursery Rhymes, Dogs, cats, sheep, cows, ferrets, chinchillas, parakeets, eggs, beef, chicken, lamb, veal......Great CD!(or cassete tape, of vinyl record. Whichever you prefer)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums of all time!, July 29, 2006
This review is from: Life in General (Audio CD)
Over time, I have heard a lot of different music by many different artists, and I have to say MxPx is one of the best bands I've ever heard. Their lyrics are clean, and the music will be stuck in your head a lot. (which is a good thing) I would have to say they are pros at writing lyrics, and the music itself.

So here you are, looking at this album, wondering if you should buy it or not. The answer? YES! This is one of their best albums, and it contains many of their classics (Chick Magnet, Doing Time, Southbound, etc.) If you want to get into MxPx but don't know where to start, you should get this first. End of story.

MxPx, one of the best punk bands out, have released a very awesome album. Every song on this album is excellent. After buying Let it Happen, It made me want to buy life in general because of the awesome songs at the end. The first song middlename, is a nice intro for the album. My mom still cleans my room has some awesome vocals, do your feet hurt is the slowest song, but very awesome. Sometimes you have to ask yourself to your problem my emergency are great tracks but i think the best tracks on this album are at the end starting at chick magnet. That song and on have very nice choruses, and addicting guitar riffs. The best songs on this album are Middlename, My Mom Still Cleans My Room, Do Your Feet Hurt, Move to Bremerton, Chick Magnet, Today is in my Way, Doing Time, Destroyed by you, and Southbound. Southbound is an awesome song because if its closing guitar riff. The bass is great, the drumming is fast, and the vocals are perfect. And that is why Life in General by MxPx got a perfect 5 out of 5. If you never heard of MxPx, this album is perfect for people curious about what they sound like. Rock on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Likely the Best and Most Memorable MxPx, January 13, 2002

'Life in General' is not only a really good cd worth buying, but is possibly one of the best cds of the late 90s. From #1 (Middlename, one of the better songs) to #17 (Southbound, not my favorite), this cd has kept my attention and is nearly worn out because of over use. Definitely worth buying. Also include maybe their best known hit "Chick Magnet".
