5.0 out of 5 stars Still the best kept secret in rock & roll, October 19, 2000

Hanoi Rocks broke up on the verge of success in 1985, due to the death of their drummer in the drunk driving hands of Vince Neil. Fifteen years later, an album by Hanoi Rocks vocalist Michael Monroe hoists the flag of rock 'n' roll at least as high as Hanoi ever did.

All original tunes, except for a cover of Ian McLagan's Little Troublemaker complete with a Clarens Clemonsesque sax solo, and a "ZZ Top meets Deep Purple" -rendition of Hanoi's Self Destruction Blues.

Scandinavia is attacking the rock 'n' roll scene with a mighty front these days, Backyard Babies, Hellacopters, Hardcore Superstar, H.I.M., and the daddy of them all, mr. Michael Monroe.

He influenced the Guns 'n' Roses, he wasn't fakin' it, and he's still rocking like ****!

5.0 out of 5 stars At last a real rock & roll record, July 22, 2000

On his new release Monroe once again captures what rock and roll is all about. Featuring his signature harmonica, sax and guitar sounds this record may be his finest solo effort and is as solid as any Hanoi Rocks material. "Always Never Again" reminds me of a good stones song, filled with solid musicianship while "I'll take you Back" is as catchy and solid as any thing currently in the top ten. "If the World dont want me.." is perhaps my favorite track and sums up everthing i like about this artist. In a day of over produced synthetic pop and angry rap/metal bands with no songwriting ability this albulm should sell 5 million copies. Sadly it won't but at least his fans can rock on while the rest of the world doesn't know what there missing. ron at oddhumorproductions.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Michael is back, May 15, 2000
This review is from: Life Get's You Dirty (Audio CD)
Yes! Life Gets You Dirty is the comeback-album of Micheal Monroe. ex-Hanoi Rocks singer has made the best album after Hanoi. This is not one of those million dollar budget records. We have those ones already in top 40. This is mini-budget album and still it's a giant in its category. Life Gets You Dirty is what it sounds. Pure rock. No cheap thicks. No fill-ups. I think after this album we can think Michael Monroe without "ex-Hanoi Rocks Singer" label in his forhead. Michael even plays all the guitar in this album (there is no Steve Stevens to ruin all the music this time).

5.0 out of 5 stars Michael ROCKS!, January 30, 2008
This review is from: Life Get's You Dirty (Audio CD)
He just ROCKS! there's nothing too much more to say. He stays true to his soul in writing rock n roll, he don't sell out, he has a story worth saying & he tells it, the only thing left is for him to leave a powerful legacy by influencing someone (like me) and that someone paying him homage in there writing style, thrusting him to greatness that is long overdue.

Okay, I really didn't think this CD was going to be this good. I have always thought of Andy McCoy at the creative mind behind Hanoi and was not too crazy about Not Fakin' It (the only Monroe solo CD I ever heard before this). But this is one killer CD. I swear if this was more well known it would be much bigger. Monroe plays all guitars on this and while there is no over the top guitar playing here, it's perfect and impressive. The CD sounds amazing. The only down points: 1) while this is a great version of Self Destruction Blues, I never like artists remaking their own stuff. 2) Not Bad For a White Boy, while a cool title is a lame song. But otherwise, I swear this CD is amazing. Too bad it's so hard to get.

I didn't know much about Michael Monroe before this album. After I heard it I just wanted more. Michael Monroe plays real simple and honest rock & roll. If you like bands like Rolling Stones, Guns 'N' Roses or something heavier "Life Gets You Dirty" is the best choice for you. Actually "Life Gets You Dirty" is rare album nowadays. It should sound like old, but it's fresh! And that's rock & roll ...
