Book Description
For the bulk of humanity who aren't movie characters or politicians, life consists of ordinary events and obligations -- the job (or lack of it), house or rent payments, mowing the lawn, figuring out why the cat just threw up on the leather sofa.
In a series of short, upbeat, humorous essays, Carolyn Henderson looks at the oddities and ends that ordinary people live through every day, lightly commenting on the absurdity of some of it, but the poignancy as well. The wife and manager of fine artist Steve Henderson, Carolyn draws readers into her household of the Norwegian Artist, their Progeny, and a rotating supply of farm and household animals.
At the end of each encouraging vignette is an image of a painting by the Norwegian Artist, whose visual work mirrors the optimistic tone of Carolyn's writing.
From Facebook to the Empty Nest Syndrome, from wet towels on the bathroom floor to the dreaded but expected health insurance notice in the mail, Carolyn addresses the real issues that real people live. Her message is one of hope, encouragement, and a belief in the importance and honor of everyday life lived by everyday people.
Carolyn has a way of drawing you into her reading as she shares about life, her family. and the way she views life handles life's circumstances. I love the glimpses you get of her family...the Norwegian Artist (her husband) College Girl (one of her daughters) and their other progeny (that is plural but my dictionary won't except the 'ies' or even 'ys'. Maybe you can explain that to me, Carolyn.) You'll read about her relationship with her washing machine, the internet, Facebook, religion, insurance companies, and so much more. Every chapter is written in her unique style that will make you laugh and even perhaps look at the way you deal with life and circumstances. The addition of the Norwegian Artist's paintings is also a big plus...I would definitely recommend this book and hope there will be another one soon.
I've been following Carolyn Henderson for quite a while, and when she wrote about her 2 e-books, I grabbed them both. Delightful, and something you can read in a moment or ponder over.
This is a fun little book giving Carolyn's perspective on many subjects. She is a mother and grandmother and has experiences worth sharing. Complementing the book are pictures done by her husband.
