5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Young Moms
Tricia has written an engaging story that is teen friendly and a great resource for people working with young moms. She offers helpful, practical advice that young people can relate to. 1.0 out of 5 stars Skip this, not helpful.
This book is no where near helpful enough for the life of a REAL teen mom who has to overcome the stigma of being a teen mom. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Instead I would choose "You look too young to be a mom" because in reading the stories of these teen mamas or former teen mamas you can not only be enlightened but empowered too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Young Moms, August 26, 2004
This review is from: Life Interrupted: The Scoop on Being a Young Mom (Mothers of Preschoolers (Mops)) (Paperback)
Tricia has written an engaging story that is teen friendly and a great resource for people working with young moms. She offers helpful, practical advice that young people can relate to. The content is interesting enough to keep the reader's attention. Having worked with young moms for sixteen years, I can honestly say that I have not seen a book more suited for today's young mom, Christian or otherwise. I see it as a sort of, "What to Expect When You're a Teen Mom" handbook. I'm glad someone had enough guts to put forth an honest book about their experience as a young mother to encourage other girls in the same situation. Her story is a great example to other expectant mothers who can't see any hope in their future. Now they can read Tricia's book and say, "Now there is one lady who made it." If they read further they can see how God had a lot to do with it, so maybe the reader will seek God's will for her life too. Great job, Tricia. I liked the book so much I requested a copy and handed it to our county's Carenet Agency director to make available to interested expectant teen moms. Thanks for stepping up to the plate and providing a valuable resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars From beginning to end this is a great book, September 6, 2004

Life Interrupted is the book I wish had been available when my sixteen-year old sister gave birth to my nephew.
I think had she had this she would have made wiser decisions for herself and her son. This book is a wonderful
blend of stories, resources, and pragmatic advice. The layout makes it easy to read and the chapter topics are
relevant to today's teens. I believe this book is not only for the moms who get pregnant, but for every teenaged
girl. Tricia Goyer has done a marvelous job of creating a resource that needs to be in every school in America as
well every church.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for teen moms, July 1, 2004

I recommend this book for anyone who is a teen mom, or knows someone who is about to become a teen mom. Tricia's candid, sometimes humorous, always down to earth, writing style would appeal to teens going through this difficult time in their life.

This book is refreshing, smart and very, very useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Won't Be Sorrry, October 11, 2004

I received a copy of the book to review for www.roadtoromance.ca and was happily surprised at the book's frank and honest way of relaying information. This book will be not only a helpful resource to young moms and dads but also to grandparents, teachers, friends and others. With quick snatches of quotes, relife experiences and others Tricia Goyer has assembled a must have manual. I will be giving copies to the local Crisis Pregnancy center. I wish we had it when we had six young girls get pregnant in our small town church.

The thing that disturbs me about the book however, are reviews like the one from Lori in Waterloo on Amazon. com. She says this:

This book contains plagarized information, exploiting the struggles of the very mothers it offers to support. Very unethical which suggests that it is very unChristian.

I wrote to the author and asked her about this. She is very upset that someone would slander her like this, because she has obtained permission from everyone's work she uses in the book. But mostly she's worried that this book won't get to where it needs to be because of some odd jealous paranoia from a few.

Once I recieved the information from the author and have no reason to doubt her as she is a credial writer with great references (and needless to say her publisher and MOPS are no strangers to the legalities of the business) I have no qualms about the five star rating and the high recommendation I am giving it as well.

Tricia's been there, done that, but also knows the hope that often eludes teen moms. I rushed her book over to a friend who works with teen moms and she could hardly wait to read and share it. Tricia offers real stories, real solutions, real hope for these girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian Book Previews, July 19, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Life Interrupted: The Scoop on Being a Young Mom (Mothers of Preschoolers (Mops)) (Paperback)
Life Interrupted by Tricia Goyer is full of excellent advice for the teenage mom. It addresses, in a kind and encouraging way, the problems faced in a teen pregnancy. Goyer gives young mothers instruction in meeting and overcoming the challenges of isolation, hurt, disapproval, and damaged family relationships.

She primarily deals with unplanned teen pregnancy, yet the author gives advice that any young mother could benefit from: how to get help; how to find your identity; how to heal relationships; how to grow as a person; how to pursue your dreams; how to discipline and show love to your child; how to find hope in a situation that seems hopeless.

Goyer gives this down to earth advice in readable chunks. Each chapter ends with a short assignment to help women sort through their situations and emotions and inspire growth and resolution. For example, one chapter has the reader answer short questions to determine what her hopes and dreams are.

Life Interrupted contains quotes from teen moms about how they feel, what they experience, and how they relate to friends and family. The book addresses the problems many young mothers face from a realistic, never condemning, point of view.

I found that by reading this book I gained sympathy for a teen mom's predicament, and became aware of ways in which I could reach out and help a teen mom. I was also able to see some of the errors of heart, and presumptions and prejudices that I have unwittingly carried against young moms; in light of that, I would recommend this book to older Christian women as well as women facing teen pregnancy first hand. -- Elece Hollis, Christian Book Previews.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Interrupted is a great tool for young moms, August 25, 2004
This review is from: Life Interrupted: The Scoop on Being a Young Mom (Mothers of Preschoolers (Mops)) (Paperback)
As someone who works full-time in ministry to teens, I highly recommend Trisha Goyer's new book for young moms. Not only has she written a wonderful resource, she's lived this book. As a young teen mom she faced all the obstacles and misconceptions dropped in your lap along with a brand new baby, diapers, and real-life responsibility. Trisha meets weekly with young high school moms in ministry and has dedicated her life to making a difference. This book is full of practical advice and real-life ministry to the young mom who has discovered that her life has been "interrupted". Amazing tool for any parent, church, organization ministering to teens who are young moms, as well as a great resource for the young mom herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book from someone with a lot of experience, September 13, 2004
This review is from: Life Interrupted: The Scoop on Being a Young Mom (Mothers of Preschoolers (Mops)) (Paperback)
What an incredible support for young moms. Ms. Goyer was able to put her considerable experience with teen moms to work in writing this book. She has dedicated endless hours to mentoring and supporting young moms, and this book is an extension of that work. Young moms who are willing to invest the time in reading this book will find themselves blessed.

5.0 out of 5 stars wise words in a snappy format, September 1, 2004
By
Sally Apokedak (Marietta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Life Interrupted: The Scoop on Being a Young Mom (Mothers of Preschoolers (Mops)) (Paperback)
This might be the perfect book for teen moms. The message comes our clearly--"you are not alone and you can not only survive but thrive in this new life."

Teen mothers are strongly tempted to abort their babies for two reasons. One is simply that babies are a hassle. They mess up their mothers' lives. Also society is not shy in handing out condemnation to young women who aren't smart enough to abort and so spare the state from the added burden of unwanted children. Young mothers are made to feel unworthy, unwise, and unable to care for their children well.

In this atmosphere Ms. Goyer's countering message of hope is oh-so-welcome. And the format makes it easy to read and digest. Well done on all levels.
