This review is from: If Life Isn't Perfect Holla (Indigo) (Mass Market Paperback)
The debut novel of Sandra Foy is the mirror image of many, many young couples today. They get married young, because they have to, and give up on their dreams, which leads to apathy.
Daniel, Kimberly's husband of fourteen years, has finally sent her over the edge with his lies, changing jobs every few months, and giving his mother more attention than he does her and their two children. The flip side of the coin is a job Kimberly is unhappy with, co-workers with whom she has issues, and being overweight. Not to mention a meddling mother-in-law, sister, and best friend. Although their life as a couple is out of control, Kimberly and Daniel take different avenues in an attempt to save their marriage and family. Will they come full circle; can this marriage and family survive the turmoil? Foy's description of characters, places and the events taking place were crystal clear. The voice of each person allowed you to see their faces as they were speakiing. The keys to THIS LIFE ISN'T PERFECT HOLLA were never giving up on your dreams, beliving in yourself, and communicating even when it hurs. An amazing novel I look forward to reading future novels by Foy. Reviewed by Toni Bonita of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

. . . shows us that no one can be in this world and not need anyone.,

Kimberly Riley is a no nonsense woman who has nothing but tough love to give to her friends and family. Being this way does not mean that she is insensitive. Instead, she is a great example of how cards are dealt in your life, but it's up to you to figure out how you can play the game.
With the help of her sister and best friend, Kimberly does not take her problems lying down. She is overweight, her husband leaves her, her kids soon abandon her to be with their dad, and her niece and nephew are terrified of her. Foy makes you realize that if you think you are the only one in this world going through something, think again. She also shows us that no one can be in this world and not need anyone. With This Life Isn't Perfect Holla as her first novel, Foy did a good job pulling Kimberly through her adversities. The spotlight was solely on Kimberly; there was not one chapter where the focus was shifted to another character without Kimberly being involved. The only things I did not like about the book were the title and a couple of the situations were left dangling without completion. For me, the title could have just been "This Life Isn't Perfect." 5 Pink Diamonds Sistah Sheila of the SistahFriend Book Club

This Life Isn't Perfect Holla, by Sandra Foy, is the perfect title for this well constructed tale of a life destroyed by any and everything thought possible. Kimberly's life was perfect, until her husband, Daniel, left her and the children went with him. She is also dealing with an accusation of a criminal stature at her workplace. With all this occurring at once, Kimberly could have easily given up and called it quits, but she is a fighter. Kimberly uses inside tracks to gain information about the charges against her as well as things with her husband. After some hard work and persistent Kimberly gains her strength and comes to grips with everything that is going on in her life. If you are looking for a read that will give you inspiration and meaning this is the book for you. Great read.

This was such an interesting book I was able to finish it in a day. It was definitely the best first time novel, by a new author, I have ever read.
Kimi's (Kimberly) world is falling apart from all angles. Her husband leaves, her kids runaway to be with their father, she loses her job, she's 60lbs overweight and is accused of illegal accounting. After a bout with self-pity and with the help of her sister and best friend, she pulls herself together and fights for her life. It was funny and a definite page turner. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Foy!

I could not put this book down! For a first time author I was truly surprised at how entertaining this novel turned out to be. It had witty dialogue, plenty of drama and characters that you cheer for. I absolutely can not wait to see what this author has in store in her next novels. If this book is any indicator she'll be on the bestseller list in no time.

This book was entertaining from beginning to end. The charcter's seem real and most people could relate to their weaknesses and strengths. Kimberly and Daniel have lost sight of what orginally bought them together. At times I fouund myself laughting out loud at the conversations. Foy has a real since of humor and I look forward to reading her next creation.

I'm always hesitant about reading novels by debut authors, because I have been disappointed before, but NOT this time. An excellent novel by Foy that has an interesting plot that focuses around an overweight wife and mother Kimberley who gave up her dream to be a writer in order to work as an accountant to help support her family. Kimberley's finally fed up with her lying husband Daniel, who moves out and eventually her two teenage children also leave because they are tired of how Kimberley treats them. Having her children leave is the wake up call she needs to change various things in her life including losing some weight and responding to charges at work, along with the help and advice of her best friend Eve and her sister Nicky. Is she ready for a new love interest? Read this wonderful novel to read about the twists and turns of Kimi's life and what happens when a woman is truly "fed up". Not your typical story.
