4.0 out of 5 stars The best single yet from 'Working on a Dream', December 28, 2008
This review is from: Life Itself (Amazon Exclusive) (MP3 Download)
Lyrically, this is much more ambitious than "Working on a Dream" and "My Lucky Day." It touches on familiar Springsteenian themes -- "Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart", etc. -- but it has some nice flourishes:

"I knew you were in trouble
Anyone could tell
You carried your little black book from which
All your secrets fell
You squandered all your riches, your beauty and your wealth
Like you had no further use for life itself"

Springsteen's voice has a world-weary quality in this one that's appealing, and I love the '60s garage guitar jangling in the background. All in all I think this one bodes well for the album as a whole. One month and counting!
