Book Description

Your roadmap to recovery from panic attacks and anxiety.

You will learn to:

Control scary and obsessive thoughts
Overcome social phobias such as fears of public speaking and flying
Feel calm and relaxed without medication
Develop more self-confidence and a positive outlook on life
Use meditation to quiet your mind and gain perspective

Do you have a tremendous fear of public speaking, flying, or other social situations? Do you live in fear of having another panic attack? Do you depend on antidepressants, alcohol, or other medications to calm you down or help you sleep?

If so, you're not alone. Tens of millions of Americans are affected by anxiety disorders and many more worldwide. I personally struggled for five years with extreme social anxiety and panic attacks, constantly battling my own scary and seemingly uncontrollable thoughts. I finally found the path to freedom from excessive worry, medication, and fear. I have overcome these problems and now live my life with a greater sense of inner peace and calmness.

I'm not a medical doctor, psychiatrist, or therapist of any sort. I am simply a normal guy whose life was once overrun with constant worry, fear, and depression. With great determination, research, and trial and error, I have returned to a healthy state of wholeness and optimism. My book details many of the problems I encountered daily, struggles that anyone suffering from anxiety can certainly relate to. I expand in detail upon my journey towards personal freedom, the valuable lessons I learned along the way, and how to apply them to your own life. I discuss why I had several severe relapses with my progress, and how you can avoid the same pitfalls.

About the Author

I am a normal guy from the Midwestern U.S. in his early 30's whose life was once a constant struggle against extreme social anxiety and panic attacks. For over five years I battled my own scary thoughts, anxious feelings and worries that I could lose control of myself and my mind at any given moment. Like many of the tens of millions in the U.S. who suffer from debilitating anxiety (and many more worldwide), I felt completely lost and hopeless at times. For years I turned to self-medication through alcohol, and doctors who prescribed just about every anti-anxiety and antidepressant medication on the market. I felt the medication numbed me both emotionally and physically, and worst of all - I was still anxious and having panic attacks! There had to be another way to beat anxiety.

My Personal Journey towards Freedom I spent years reading every book I could find on the subject of panic attacks, anxiety and psychology. I experimented with different therapies and mental-conditioning exercises, and explored various approaches to life in the hopes of finding something that would help me. I was determined to fix my anxiety problems without the use of any prescription medication or traditional talk therapy.

Highlights of the book include:
Education - Explanations of what anxiety is, and how it affects your body and mind. Strategy - How to formulate a plan to overcome your own fears and self-created limitations.
Techniques - Discussions of the various physical and mental techniques I found most helpful in my recovery and still practice today, including meditation.
Inspiration - I show you how to gain a sense of urgency and inspiration to change your life.
Life Changes - Adjustments to your lifestyle to help encourage a peaceful mind and body.
Are you ready to get your life back?

A Life Less Anxious: Freedom from panic attacks and social anxiety without drugs or therapy (Volume 1)

I have been struggling with Anxiety/Panic attacks since I was a teenager. I have read so many books, Listen to tons of CD's and bought an expensive Video program. None have ever helped me. Steves books is so well written, I read half the book the first night. Even thou I knew I wasnt the only one who struggled with Anxiety, this book shed a new light for me. I have yet to read a book where the Author so totally described my symptoms and understood what I am going thru. I am so glad I bought this book. Yesterday during a snow storm we were out doing errands I tried Steves breathing technique.. IT worked! I had gotten myself so worked up about the snow and fearing the "WHAT IFS" we slid off the road~~ I wasnt sure how I would ever make it home. I then started breathing as Steve says in the books and for the first time in my life,, I was able to get my anixety attack under control. Thank you Steve for writing this book. I highly recommend this bookfor anyone who is struggling with anxiety.

I originally bought this book for my husband, a long-time anxiety sufferer relying on prescription medications to control his often-crippling anxiety. He will not attempt any treatments or read any books that seem fishy, new-agey, or "fruity." I decided to give this book a try as it didn't seem to fit into any of the categories to which my husband objects. I hit the jackpot with this book and I am so glad I bought it!

I have more trouble with depression than anxiety, and there were many tips that I have applied to my own life. The author is knowledgeable and funny, which keeps this book from being preachy, like so many self-help books are. I loved that he put detailed stories of what anxiety had done to him and his life. I was able to read those out loud to my husband as I read the book, and that did a lot to pique his interest in this book and actually give it a chance. This is the first self-help book I've ever found that my husband will actually read!

I know this review is getting long, but I have to add that the author addresses the side-effects of anti-depressants, which are regularly prescribed to help with anxiety. Namely, the sexual side-effects. It is difficult to discuss or admit that it happens, but it is such a huge drawback to those medications. This problem has had a tremendous impact on our life and it is one of the big reasons that we'd love for my husband to be off of the drugs.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not the only one December 6, 2009

As a person who has suffered from anxiety, I found this book extremely relatable and very useful. Thanks to this book, I now know I'm not the only one. The book provides practical and realistic ways to alleviate stress in order to overcome debilitating anxiety. I have already begun to incorporate the techniques into my daily life. If you are suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, I would highly recommend this book. I only wish this book was written sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tactics for Even Non-Anxiety Sufferers December 7, 2009
Format:Paperback
Let's face it, everyone has times when their own thoughts consume them, and they need to gain balance and peace. This book is a PERFECT read for folks who want to gain control of their minds and achieve a steady, positive outlook on life. The author does a nice job of telling his own story -- whether you can relate to the specifics or not, you can surely appreciate the honesty and candor with which he shares his experiences; by the end of the first part you feel like he is one of your good friends. Which sets the tone nicely for the remainder of the book, which, in my opinion, should be read by EVERYONE. We could all use a physical, mental, and spiritual cleanse - and the non-judgmental, humorous, effective way the author presents his tactics is well-appreciated. A real breath of fresh air compared to the pop-psychology-babble we see on shelves. Great book, great tactics for self-improvement and overall mental health.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! December 10, 2009
Format:Paperback
A self help book that really helps. As a psychotherapist specializing in Anxiety Disorders, I know the journey can be a lonely one for many. Most people rarely have a chance to connect with someone going through the same emotional issue. The author gives you that chance to hear first hand, someone's successful story of recovery. The book can also be a resource for therapists as part of their recommended reading. The format facilitaties learning and the writing is easy to read, insightful and motivational. It's great to have the "how to" and the "hope", in one book. The well selected quotes are on target and well placed in the text. I highly recommend this book to those who suffer with life altering anxiety. Well done. I'll be looking for the sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read about his situation December 27, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This was my first book on anxiety and it was comforting to hear how SOME of his issues related to what I am going through. This was a short and easy to read book and overall was a good read. I did not walk away with any amazing concepts and or ideas on how to help my anxiety, but again this seems like a good first book to start with. On to the next book :)

I think I'm a lot like you...

You see, I'm not a doctor, psychologist or therapist. I am just a normal guy from the Midwest whose life was once a constant struggle against extreme social anxiety and panic attacks. For over five years I battled my own scary thoughts, anxious feelings and worries that I could lose control of myself and my mind at any given moment.

Like many of the tens of millions in the U.S. who suffer from debilitating anxiety (and many more worldwide), I felt completely lost and hopeless at times. My Personal Journey towards Freedom

I spent years reading every book I could find on the subject of panic attacks, anxiety and psychology. I experimented with different therapies and mental-conditioning exercises, and explored various spiritual and religious approaches to life in the hopes of finding something that would help me. I was determined to fix my anxiety problems without the use of any prescription medication or traditional talk therapy.

The tricky part about anxiety in all of its forms is that we create it within our minds. But if we create it - that also means we can get rid of it. This is easier said than done, and it literally took me years to figure out how to do this. But you can learn from my mistakes and use this book as a road map to get your life back in order much faster.

Everything I learned and applied to my own life has completely changed me forever. I am free from panic attacks and my social anxiety problems, and have a new zest and excitement for life that I previously never thought I could achieve.

Why I wrote this book

I wrote this book to help others free themselves from the shackles of panic attacks and anxiety, and to once again live a real life. I want everyone out there who is suffering to take the same journey towards freedom that I have taken, and to once again realize how amazing and wonderful life really is. You can put your life back together and live without the constant fears and worries that plague your mind now. Just imagine that!

No matter how bad off you feel you are, there is always hope. On many occasions I was just about ready to give up on life, feeling incredibly low, frustrated and hopeless. Yet I still was able to recover and create a new life full of hope and excitement for the future. I know you can do the same, and am hopeful that my book and website can help you along your journey towards freedom.
