Our home community meets weekly, about 14 people from a variety of religious traditions. We have found this to be very useful, and at a level where all can appreciate. I believe it is a bit light on content, but it is a great guide for discussion. The NKJV and NCV parallel passages are useful. Especially good are the book exceprts that accompany each chapter. An excellent thought provoker.

Max, writes every book like it was just for me at that point in my life. It always amazes me how he explains things in his books that you may have read a hundred times before. But while reading the light bulb comes on. and it is like how did I ever miss that..or what a beautiful way he explains it.

This book can be great in the hands of a capable teacher, but there's not a lot of meat to it other than the passages of Scripture. Basically, the book consists of a portion of Scripture from Genesis reprinted (a parallel of the NCV and the NKJF), then questions based on the passage, an inspirational excerpt from a previously published book (usually a Max Lucado book), and some more questions. For a capable teacher, the book has done a good job of boiling down the passage into a theme, or an objective, that could be the point of the class. For instance, Lesson 6 is entitled "Trusting God." If a teacher really focused on that point (what it looked like in Abraham's life, in Sarah's life, perhaps in other Biblical characters lives, and in the student's life to trust God) starting in the Genesis passage, but expanding it to other passages, and did a good job of application, then the book is valuable. But, without a good bit of study and addition to the text, you won't get much depth. One point I like about the book is that it takes broad themes and covers the book of Genesis in a relatively short amount of time. One thing I don't like about the book is the number of "what do YOU think?" questions. Most of the time, it doesn't matter what I or anyone else thinks about a passage of Scripture. Mr. Lucado should have stuck with more "What does Scripture say....?"
