This review is from: Life from Light: Is It Possible to Live Without Food?: A Scientist Reports on His Experiences (Paperback)
As a spiritual scientist (yogi) for many years, I am delighted to see that this book has been made available on the U.S. market. Dr. Werner's hard science-minded approach to "living on light" is a beautiful contrast to the current small (and growing) group of more "spiritually-minded" light feeders - Jasmuheen, HRM, etc.

Dr. Werner takes a very objective look at the process and ability of the human body to receive nourishment from the "light" - i.e., prana, chi, ki, orgone, etc. With a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Dr. Werner has himself subsisted solely on prana (and water, tea, etc) since the year 2000. By sharing his experience with the world, Dr. Werner is trying to open the "materialistically-addicted" minds of fellow scientists so that they too can see that we humans are spiritual beings as well.

This book includes great information for the Western educated person as well as: transcript of a Dr. Werner lecture; Q&A w/ Dr. Werner; a 10-day hospital-run experiment in which Dr. Werner was kept in strict isolation and studied around the clock; personal experience from a dozen or so people that have also underwent the 21-day transition process; and a look into the future of science and spirituality.

For anyone interesting in the future of human evolution (that is here now), this is a great book to have. Dr. Werner's book is a perfect addition to the Jasumheen, HRM, Mantak Chia (parts of his work), and yogic books/videos that also teach these wonderous methods of living on light.

Namaste.

5.0 out of 5 stars All life arises in the unseen spiritual realm, June 16, 2010

This review is from: Life from Light: Is It Possible to Live Without Food?: A Scientist Reports on His Experiences (Paperback)
In 1935, 1912 Nobel prize winner Alexis Carrel wrote in MAN, THE UNKNOWN that there was no proof that even one molecule of food ever became part of any human being's body. Michael Werner has now proved how right Dr. Carrel was.

Theosophist Rudolf Steiner often made the same observation. When an acorn grows into an oak tree, the ground around the oak does not weigh any less, so where did the oak tree come from? The only answer is from the invisible ether, or whatever you choose to name that spiritual world.

Scoffers like the one star reviewer (cited elsewhere here) cannot fathom the obvious exception that changes the current paradigm. But Michael Werner has proven them wrong, just like Catholic nun Blessed Therese Neumann did early in the 20th century.

Anecdotal evidence points to poisoning as the reason Rudolf Steiner died so young. Steiner pointed people towards the truth in his lectures; viz., that metaphysics has primacy over physics at all times.

Read LIFE FROM LIGHT with an open & inquiring mind, and make up your own mind about its truth. And let the scoffers weep, and gnash their teeth. Their day has indeed passed by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind Opening book:), November 7, 2007
This review is from: Life from Light: Is It Possible to Live Without Food?: A Scientist Reports on His Experiences (Paperback)
I had heard of a few people living on light in the past, but when I found out that a modern man, husband, father and scientist had done it for 6 years I was amazed! The book was great, it left me more curious about the subject and more open to the idea without being overwhelmed or afraid.

I completely recommend it !

This review is from: Life from Light: Is It Possible to Live Without Food?: A Scientist Reports on His Experiences (Paperback)
After finding the book by chance, i was delighted to find a 'western' approach to the subject. Werner gives a rigorous account of his methods, and the 10-day, 24 hour experiement he volunteered for. The book also contains some information on the science behind his way of living, and helps push the door that much further in opening our minds to the possibilities of a not so material world.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Improvement over 'Jasmuheen', but not scientific enough, May 19, 2011
This review is from: Life from Light: Is It Possible to Live Without Food?: A Scientist Reports on His Experiences (Paperback)
With the discrediting of 'Jasmuheen', most clear thinking people have dismissed breatherianism as a hoax. The author of this book breaths new life into the debate.

Michael Werner adds credibility by risking his reputation - and potentially his career - on the contention that inedia is not only possible, but a way of life. Dr. Werner claims to have lived without any food for over two years. The most interesting part of the book is reproduction of an experiment he submitted to. He was kept in a laboratory and watched for nearly two weeks without eating; however, going without food for 2 weeks is not impossible or even difficult for people who are accustomed to fasting. The other accounts in the book are of people who tried breatherianism for days - sometimes weeks at a time - but did not stick with it for more than a few weeks at most.

An interesting book. But still no definitive evidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars First steps in the phenomenon of living from light, November 7, 2011

This review is from: Life from Light: Is It Possible to Live Without Food?: A Scientist Reports on His Experiences (Paperback)
This is an excellent overview of what could be an emotive subject. I was interested in the phenomenon of living without food and bought this book along with one by Jasmuheen. However I was not attracted to the eastern flavour of the Jasmuheen book and only skimmed it when it arrived. I got what I needed from Michael Werner and Thomas Stoekli and am now considering doing the "21-day process" which they write of. I am not yet certain if I will do it, but I am at least informed about it and received from the book what I needed to take the next step.

The book is quite scientific in its tone. Werner is a chemist by training and Stoekli writes on scientific subjects. They are both interested in giving the mainstream scientific world the opportunity to do proper research - indeed a ten-day scientific study in a sterilised intensive care facility is described at length in the book. The authors wish to move the scientific argument beyond where it currently stands with many scientists dogmatically stating that to live on light is impossible. Reactionary scientists may state this but it is something done by hundreds of people in the world today and the evidence is there that there have been people who were closely monitored and could not eat. In respect to this evidence, is there really a need to prove yet again that living on light can be done? The authors' intention is rather to open the minds of current thinkers to what is happening when a person lives without food. The ideas of quantum physics make it clear that all matter is exactly what the mystics have always said it was - light - and so they would like to get some serious investigation going into what is happening physiologically and spiritually when a person lives without regular nourishment and yet does not lose weight and continues to live. They make a good beginning in this - it will not be enough to convince an out-and-out materialist, I am sure, but such a person cannot be convinced. To those who are open to it, Werner and Stoekli have made a beginning into something that could be an important area for future "quantum" science to investigate. The authors are both students of Rudolf Steiner and quote from some of his relevant comments and indeed, his "spiritual science" does seem to have within it the tools that would allow a reasoned investigation into such a subject to take place.

The scientific arguments were not really so very interesting to me but they did give the book a good down-to-earth quality. I personally wanted to know more concerning how a person changes spiritually through the process and under what circumstances the technique can be learned. According to the authors, there have always been a few people who can do this (the German nun, Teresa Neumann, for example) but it is only since the Eighties of the Twentieth Century that it has become possible for anyone who seriously wishes to live from light to practise this. It is a serious matter to embark on such a thing and something very much up to the freedom of the individual. However, it is not hard to see that with the coming global economic crisis, many people will be deprived of food and perhaps it will be important that a few know how to survive at such a time.

I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the subject.

This book by Michael Werner takes the very substantial work and contributions of Jasmuheen about living on light (see pranic Nourishment) from the ashram to the laboratory. He is a chemist living in Dornach Switzerland and has made himself available for scientific testing of his metabolic functioning after ceasing to eat 1/1/01. He feels that anyone who believes it is possible to live on light can wean themselves from food and liquids by following Jasmuheen's 21 day transition procedure.

This review is from: Life from Light: Is It Possible to Live Without Food?: A Scientist Reports on His Experiences (Paperback)
This book was the last step to me to make a decision (of course after a great preparation). The Michael's approach is realy valuable because he talks from a regular person's view. I consider myself a regular person as well, so this book was for me. And I did the process in 2010 and I can say that after a good preparation anyopne can do it, although I found 90 days later, by living by prana, that our emotional/social attachments for food and our addictions for sugar, salt, spices, etc, need a serious work before we try some very radical process like this. I am very happy that I did it, my life changed completely, but I came back to food and I think that the best way to be a food free is going step by step, i.e., go vegetarian, vegan, frutarian, liquidarian, or something close to it. This way we will not force our nature, we will learn how to listen to the body, etc. I agree with michael: this is for everyone, but, please, be careful and wise. Listen to you own intution and respect your body needs.
Thanks to Michael. His great work helps a lot, and is a real proof that it is possible to live by prana.

1.0 out of 5 stars More fodder for the brainless, May 26, 2008
This review is from: Life from Light: Is It Possible to Live Without Food?: A Scientist Reports on His Experiences (Paperback)
This one should go down well with wannabe "Darwin Award" winners. I think the title says it all. Wondering if it's the author and his four deluded best friends that have given the other fawning reviews above. Suffice to say that anyone who had done what the aithor has claimed wouldn't be around to write about it. If he has discovered how to live without food, what's holding him back from saving the starving multitudes of the world? And how about those that died in their tens of millions in Soviet Russia -one would've thought there would be ample snow-reflected light flying around during a good Soviet winter to leave anyone feeling positively bloated.

I should probably let the author get back to sneaking a mid-night slice of pizza.
