When it first arrived I was awed by the sheer size of the big box. Nice Set.
Two Locomotives, good quality with two separate power packs. The passenger cars/rolling stock are Plastic so maybe I was expecting a bit more in quality since I compared them in my mind to those from my father's collection made of metal 45 years ago; yet very detailed and they are lighted.
I was a bit skeptical about the Life-Like tracks but was actually pleased by their ease of assembly and disassembly and not having to look for tie links like the old tracks, the black plastic housing ads realism to them and am glad I also purchased the track expansion set (separately.) Also pleased to know that they sell adaptors so that you can link Life-Like tracks to conventional tracks my father used 45 years ago.
There are also HO scale Fire House and Police Station, an elevated passenger station, autos and road signs that are very intricate in detail to give it a very realistic feel. There is even a booklet included on how to apply modeling paint if you so wish to add even more realism and introduce you into the world of model railroading.
I give it 4 stars for quality compared to the other HO products on the market over the past 45 years; however as a Starter set and price paid it really is EXCELLENT and actually deserves 5 Stars.

This was an excellant set for my son and I. I was amazed at the value we got for the price. We were set to purchase the same set for $100.00 more elsewhere until we saw it on Amazon.com. The amount of the contents was staggering. The buildings included would easily cost at least $40-50.00 a piece by themselves. So to include such detailed items as part of this set was really over the top. Great train set for an outstanding price.

As products from Lifelike Trains range in prices and quality so does this set, I too had several starter sets very similar to this one and expanded and collected more and more individual locomotives and rolling stock. Now the results are at least a total layout complete with everything one could want in a model railroad. This starter set is just that, a perfect way to launch a life-long interest in this hobby. There are thousands of people and other resources such as train videos and magazines to help show the potential of this type of set. If one were to purchase several sets over time and set up a 4'x8' train table and follow some simple track plans available on-line, this would be a great way to utilize such sets. I know because as I mentioned I started out that way as many of us do.

The best,

I ordered this for a German friend visiting us here in GA. He always wanted to have a trainset, especially with American trains. We found the perfect match for him with this here and he took it home to Germany. it will run around his Christmas Tree when season is coming up. He loves it.

Purchased for son (8 year old), as Birthday gift, month ago. For the price there is much included. I found it hard to find a starter set with which had many items included, at lower price (was hoping to stay under $60), however for the price of this set I was content with everything which was included. Trains run well, lighted passenger cars was a big hit. Did not attempt to elevate the train, placed on floor as individual layouts, then combined. The locking tracks work very well, only downfall is to expand the set you need to purchase additional life-like type tracks (really no big issue). We are presently using it on the floor, plan to place on a board in the future. The buildings are nice, assembly instructions are not that great.
Would recommend, and purchase again.

This train set have mix of good and poor quality.
The both engines and all passenger cars and tracks have very good quality. the train set has realist details. the setup is easy!
however, the building kits, vehicles and signs comes with this kit are made from a very bad plastics. Some of the signs can't even stand up. vehicles are blended. buildings are so cheap looking. One more, these track base for high rise is also very weak to support the trains riding full speed.

My son cant tell the different, but I do! 3.5 Stars overall
My son loves it anyway!

We purchased this set for the kids for Christmas. We ranked it as "okay" because we got it 50% off Cyber Monday and for that price (~$100) we're satisfied. This set has some distinct pros and cons.

Pros:
• The two trains and dual set-up were great! It lets more than one child run it at a time. We really like this.
• The number of cars provided and extra city accessories were also really nice.
• Overall, this is a good starter set to get you off the ground with a good deal more than just an engine and an oval.

Cons:
• The "Power-Loc" track is somewhat problematic for several reasons:
- It is not compatible (without a separately purchased adapter) with more common HO scale track, such as the classic track or Bachman's E-Z track.
- It is harder to find (other than on Amazon) that other more common track.
- It is QUITE DIFFICULT to put together and even worse to disassemble, even for adults. Be cautioned!

Summary: The trains and accessories are great. The track is a pain. We ended up with 8 broken pieces in the first 48 hours before our children (13 & 11) learned how to carefully assemble and disassemble it. This Power-LOC system would be fine for a permanent setup, but for anything you want to set up and tear down, we would recommend the Bachmann E-Z track system. It is a FAR superior design -- we ended up buying a set of Bachmann track to supplement/replace the track from this set.

We liked this train set because it is 2 complete train sets. They can be set up on one platform each or together. We did one cityscaped and one country.

This appears to be a great value on the surface. The low quality of the connectors between track sections, and the train cars, make it a poor value. There are tiny brass brushes at the base of each rail at each end of all track sections. These are not pressed into the plastic securely. They fall out and are impossible to find. Without them the track does not conduct electricity.

The cars are very, very lightweight. You can not run the train above a crawl or they will derail. I have used quite several HO scale train sets over my life. I have an expectation of being able to run the train at half throttle at least on straightaways.

I don't know if this is the industry standard. I hope not. I wish I had not purchased this.
