5.0 out of 5 stars Thin Lizzy's Grand Finale
This album is Thin Lizzy's farewell tour. The songs are delivered with intensity and excitement. 'Don't Believe a Word' is a slower version originally recorded by Gary Moore and Phil on Gary's 'Back on the Streets' LP. Sykes and Gorham play in all the songs (Gorham - Thin Lizzy's longest lasting guitarist is at his best). All Thin Lizzy's past guitar players play on this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Thin Lizzy the second
No this is not the better of the 2 live albums. It is however a better overview of the whole Thin Lizzy. If you are already a fan and know a lot of the songs. This is more your album. There is a lot of very good slow songs, just as on any album. There is also a lot of great rockers. . I think this one shows a lot more Phil than the first Live and Dangerouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thin Lizzy's Grand Finale, February 28, 2003

This album is Thin Lizzy's farewell tour. The songs are delivered with intensity and excitement. 'Don't Believe a Word' is a slower version originally recorded by Gary Moore and Phil on Gary's 'Back on the Streets' LP. Sykes and Gorham play in all the songs (Gorham - Thin Lizzy's longest lasting guitarist is at his best). All Thin Lizzy's past guitar players play on this album: Snowy White on 'Renegade', and Gary Moore, Brian Robertson, and Eric Bell are back together for the last four songs giving Thin Lizzy 5 lead guitarists. Brian is featured on 'Emerald', Gary on 'Black Rose' and Eric on 'The Rocker'.
Phil sounds a bit rougher than 'Live and Dangerous' but his lyrics are relaxed with his usual much adlibbing.
The sound quality is great. The graphics are shrunk from the original LP so all the credits are microscopic and the pictures are quite small.
This album is a reissue, and reissues go out of print, so don't delay if this is on your wish list.

5.0 out of 5 stars sublime, February 9, 2005
This review is from: Life: Live (Audio CD)
The last live Lizzy release features the 1983 lineup with John Sykes/Scott Gorham tearing up the axe duties with the various guitarists featured throughout the Lizzy career according to song. Eric Bell, Gary Moore, Snowy White, Scott Gorham, Brian Robertson, and John Sykes all get the chance to cut heads again with the man himself in this heavily edited effort. I swear that Dave Flett (of Manfred Mann fame) even gets to get his chance on stage here but I'm not sure to who gets credit here on what song! The set lists contains a host of vintage Lizzy with a heavy portion given to the 1983 lineup featuring the Sykes/Gorham head-cutters. The songs are delivered with fury and mayhem as one would expect from a Lizzy concert, with much more intensity than the "Live and Dangerous" LP. Contrary to many hard-core Lizzy reviews, this albums brings the fire and brimstone right in the face of the listener without asking for quarter. Hands down to me this is the most bruising, face-kicking, barroom brawling Thin LIzzy live effort ever commited to vinyl. Strong portions to note are Johns Sykes amazing solo in "Still Loving You", possibly the most emotional solo ever layed down, be it over-dubbed or not. It just burns white-hot! Other hot spots are "Thunder and Lightening","Angel of Death" and "Waiting for an AlibI" Scott Gorham performance is of note because he rarely ever leaves the stage, but delivers memorable solo after memorable solo. I can't say enough about Gorham's contribution to rock and roll guitar. The man has quietly went about his business and carved himself out a reputation of delivering some of the most bruising, beautiful, guitar ever set in wax, and I, for one, am thankful for his contribution. I've spent many hours trying to capture his brutal vibrato and note selection on guitar (the man bends notes like a BEAR), and walk away session after session appreciating his work. He is truly an unsung hero in the Thin Lizzy saga. But I digress, "Live Life" brings a resounding close to the Thin Lizzy portion of rock and roll's brief history, and delivers the close with a wink and a punch, much the way Phil Lynott lived his life, hard and fast. The world is a less cool place since the black Irishman has left us for a better world, but I never forget to think about him regularly. If you don't know the music of Phil Lynott, I would suggest you would be a better person for taking the effort to make his work known to you. You'll thank him for it in the end. God Bless Phil Lynott.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenominal Live Album!!, August 13, 2007
This review is from: Life: Live (Audio CD)
This easily ranks up there with the greatest live albums of all time. I bought it on vinyl when it first came out. Phil Lynott has one of the most unique voices in rock, ever! Oh, and he can play bass ok, too. Thin Lizzy has always had amazing energy on stage and this just proves it. My faves are "Holy War" (great bass riff) and "Cold Sweat" (amazing guitar solo). But the whole album is just pure Lizzy energy. I am so happy they were able to get everybody together before the untimely death of Lynott in 1986 (The rock & roll lifestyle finally caught up with him). If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome ending for Thin Lizzy!, April 24, 2007

It is always interesting to hear the "other side" from certain reviewers, and just goes to show how personal music is and can be. If you are a fan of Thin Lizzy, then you must own Live and Dangerous AND Life Live, period. Live/Dangerous is from 1978 and has the band in top form ripping through the songs, but I would venture to say in a more "hard rock" vein. Life/Live has the band showing its more "metallic" sound. I believe that both are excellent. Life/Live also has every major guitarist come back for the final show, and there is just no end to the wailing, rocking, shredding guitar on this! I believe the sound is totally passable, I had it on vinyl, then got it on cd, years ago, don't know if they ever improved on it. If you don't know Thin Lizzy, then I would probably say to get Live/Dangerous, and if you like it, then try out Life/Live. cheers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Recording, November 16, 2011
This review is from: Life: Live (Audio CD)
This CD is the every bit as good as the rest of their Live recordings... The lifeless negative reviews are being caused by 5 guitar players having to take turns when they are not used to this. The band really sounds like they are having fun with the whole gig if you ask me. I have every Thin Lizzy recording available and this one is one of the best if you like live recordings. I'm sure Phil will still be rocking when i get there... Rock on Phil ... Rock on

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, February 7, 2011
This review is from: Life: Live (Audio CD)
Here I am to bring up the rating on this fantastic album. What else can I say besides it's amazing? This contains probably the most beautiful version of Still In Love with you that I have ever heard. It rivals the version on Live and Dangerous. Life definitely deserves a spot in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTING, BUT ENJOYABLE!!!, December 9, 2006

I LOVE Thin Lizzy!!!!! I recently heard "Dangerous Live" & was left charged up & excited like I had been at the arena! Therefore, I was surprised at the mixed & negative reviews on this one. I gave it a listen & I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. I agree that it doesn't match up to the afore-mentioned "Dangerous Live". The main thing is the sound quality. Even before I heard the first one remastered, I was amazed at the reproduction. It sounded like there were no studio overdubs, yet it was as clear as a studio album. This one sounds almost like a bootleg. The guitars sound as if they're cranked too high, & you can hear the feedback. Also, on "Thunder & Lightning", Phil sounds as if he's screaming his lungs out & it almost sounds like Lemmy. However, I'm not saying this isn't enjoyable or worth having BY ANY MEANS!!!!!!!!! I guess the best way to put it is like this: If you're a casual listener & only want a taste of what their concerts were like, DEFINITELY get "Dangerous Live" FIRST!! But, if you've heard that & can't get enough live "Lizzy", or you're a diehard & are undecided about this album, I'd get it. Just don't expect this to be more than what it is.
