5.0 out of 5 stars Are You Up to Taking the Pesky Challenge?
Having been a fan of Jennifur's ultra-swanky zine Pesky Meddling Girls for 3+ years, I was beyond excited to find out she had a book coming out.Jennifur's zine (and book) changed my whole outlook on things. Instead of being a sad sack and upset about all my "flaws", her book taught me to embrace all of those qualities, because without them I would not be me. I...

2.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment!
A bit shocked by all the rave reviews! Physically, the book is great. It's colorful, interactive, and full of wonderful illustrations. Content-wise, it's a whole other story. The advice is old-fashioned and likely to make a girl the most unpopular girl in school! Jennifur Brandt is stuck in the 1980's with far too many references to 'Pretty in Pink' and far too much...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, February 25, 2003

I bought the book based on the title. Im a sucker for glamour! The book was intended for a friends daughter. I read it, I love it and have to buy her another copy. I really wish I would have had this book when I was 15 or 16. maybe I would have made choices a bit different. I am so impressed with Jennifur and wish her so much in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, April 14, 2005
This review is from: Life is a Movie Starring You: The Pesky Meddling Girls Guide to Living Your Dream (Paperback)
I have had this book forever, and whenever I read parts of it, they are still relevant and inspiring. The whole book is creative and contains lots of good advice. Positive and open, the author is the type of person I would want as my rolemodel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gift for Any Teen (or her mother), January 13, 2001
By
This review is from: Life is a Movie Starring You: The Pesky Meddling Girls Guide to Living Your Dream (Paperback)
Another reviewer said this wonderful book isn't for older readers which could lead some who need it to think they'd gain nothing from it. I bought five copies to give to teens at Xmas; and, although I'm older than dirt, even I picked a few good pesky hints. Most 12 to 21 year olds need advice on how to take control of their own lives while having fun in the process. And it never hurts anyone -- regardless of age -- to be reminded that she is responsible for the quality of her life. Great message -- fun read.

Ok first I want to say that I understand everyone has their own opinions and I dont want to be rude but I totally disagree with miss thang Dena Martin!!! I mean I looked at your other reviews and do u like anything??? I mean Jennifur is not here to please anyone!!! She is a writer and wonderful person with great talent and a great take on life. She doesnt want girls to be her carbon copy as you could tell from her book. She wants girls to be themsleves and sometimes that takes encouraging.... Jennifur is willing to help all girlkind!!! And I think most people would appreciate that. I loved the book as you can probobly tell by my defense for Miss Brandt. I want to get this book for all my gal pals. Its given me self confidence and a little spunk!!! Which hasnt hurt any gurrls yet!!! I dont care if you love or hate this book but I recommend it!!! Girls any age... geez i mean my grandma wants to read it next, that is once my mom is finished with it!!! :-) Rock on Jennifur!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's tell girls what "Real American Girls" look like, December 20, 2000
By
This review is from: Life is a Movie Starring You: The Pesky Meddling Girls Guide to Living Your Dream (Paperback)
I love this book! It tells us that girls don't have to weigh 85 pounds to be beautiful. They don't have to buy the most expensive cosmetics and clothes to look good. I like the concept of trying to attain your own look...instead of following the crowd. This is a book I could have used as a teenager. I believe girls can truly learn something here, how to love themselves the way they are. Priceless information.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Glittery Fun Book Worth its Price, December 29, 2000
By

This review is from: Life is a Movie Starring You: The Pesky Meddling Girls Guide to Living Your Dream (Paperback)
I had seen Ms. Brandt's book reccommended in the recent issue of Girl's Life and absolutely *WANTED* it! While I was at the mall today, the title of the book made it's way to the front of my Pesky-Girl brain. I bought it, and read it within 2 hours! It is a great book. Why, may you ask?

Letsee. There are soo many reasons that I would completely *purchase* this for other people. Jennifur is a great person (and author) and knows how a teen thinks. The book does not preach its message. What also suprised me was that it didn't spend fifty glittertrillion pages on beauty. It really concentrated on t he *life* factor of a teen.

The concept is also great! I love thinking of my life as a movie. This title of the book provided me the lil pink idea of naming my autobiography (for school): Life is a Movie Starring ME! The autobiography is written in script form to keep with the ingenious concept (Thank you Jennifur!)

I used to think that a lot of girls who wore glitter and pink were boy-obsessed girly-girls but now I know that I should flaunt my Pesk-girlishness and I'll paint my 10 little digits pink as soon as I get home!

Wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars What I considered "The Bible" at age 16!, May 27, 2009
This review is from: Life is a Movie Starring You: The Pesky Meddling Girls Guide to Living Your Dream (Paperback)
I got this book when I was about 15 or 16 (24 now) and it meant the world to me! I loved it so much, I wrote a letter to Jennifur telling her how much she had inspired me.

First of all, I loved filling out all the little info about myself, making cute little collages, and was so inspired by all the inspirations!

I was a very..."unique" individual (I was basically a loser who dressed weird and had no friends) and this book served a lot of purpose for me. For one, it is filled with facts about taking care of yourself, etiquette, and DIY projects that may seem over-the-top or silly to adults, but were so awesome to myself as a teen! I found all the pictures of Jennifur so inspiring, (I especially loved the one with her collaged suitcase, totally made a ton of those myself) and her words really truly words to live by.

Lets face it, when you're 16 the world is working against you, you want nothing more than to live in your dreams and fantasize about the future, picturing yourself as a glamorous movie star running off to Hollywood to be the star of your own silent film. Or was that just me? All the same, this book is perfect for any young girl with a bit of interest in the unique, the glamorous, the vintage...it inspired me to do so many things - start my own journals filled with all sorts of pictures, makeover my bedroom to feel like a boudoir, even start my own 'zine!

I recommend this to any girl with her head in the clouds, any girl who has wished upon a star and truly believes it will come true, any girl who needs a little hope that life is so much better than it is at 14, 15, or 16. It will inspire, I promise.

It still sits on my bookshelf, and I still love to flip through it every now and then.
