Nice Neti pot,
This review is from: Nettie the Elephant (Health and Beauty)
This Neti pot has several advantages. (1) The spout is slim enough for someone with small nostrils, like me. (2) It's ceramic, which makes it comfortable (no weird seam like some molded plastic pots might have) AND dishwasher safe. And (3) the design makes it easy to pour water through the spout without having it all accidentally dribble out the top. If you're a first time Neti pot user (like me), I think this will work for you.

Very Comfortable and Pretty!,

Of all the neti pots I have tried, this one has the most comfortable spout. The handle, or I guess the elephant's ear, fits very well in my hand making it easy for me to get the proper tilt on the neti pot.
I love it. Now to get my kids to try it - haven't tried that yet!

This neti pot has really helped my wife for her allergy problems. It
provides relief and it is reasonalbly priced. It sure beats having to go to the doctor often. More people should know about neti pots.

Pros: well designed reservoir. Will not spill when up-ended in use.
Cons: ceramic, so breakable. And, it's difficult to get a good seal on the nostril, so much of the solution spills without going through the nasal passages. Bottom line: it works, but getting a good seal can be difficult.

This Nettie Pot has helped to cleanse my nostrils and, I believe, has kept me from having a cold or sinus infection during a time when so many around me have been getting sick with colds and flu. I'm very pleased with the product.

I developed severe allergies in the past year, and after going through all the OTC and prescription allergy meds with little to no relief, I finally ordered a Neti pot. I will admit to ordering this one because of the cute elephant design, and it definitely lived up to the cuteness and made the thought of pouring saline into my nose a little less daunting! Plus one star for that, alone!I decided that I wanted a ceramic Neti pot over plastic, and this pot is very well made, completely glazed inside and out, which makes it VERY easy to keep clean. I did take off a star because the Neti pot was made in China, yet advertised on the amazon page that it was American made. I'm not too bothered by this, but I think that the seller should change the description to "Made in China" (truth in advertising). I would recommend anyone who gets a neti pot for the first time to watch a demonstration video online before using, just to see how to angle your head. I would also recommend knowing about the risks involved if you use it incorrectly. It can result in an ear infection if not used properly. If you allow the water to run out of your nose without blowing and then tip your head back so any remaining water runs down your throat (which you can then spit out), you can greatly reduce the risk of an ear infection. Blowing the water out of your nose, especially blowing forcibly, can actually push the water into the ear area and cause eventually cause infection (or so I've been told). All in all, I am very pleased with this Neti pot. It has relieved all the allergy congestion -- feels nice to be able to breathe again! This works SO much better than all the allergy medications, and drug-free, too!

Got water in ear canal ...not fun.,

This pot is very cute, made of sturdy ceramic, designed in a way that makes it easy to pour water into your nostril. However, I had a bad experience using it for the first time, based on the poorly written, overly basic instruction sheet that was included with the pot. There is a crudely drawn diagram showing how to tilt your head, and some simple instructions ending with "stop and blow your nose to clear out any remaining solution."
It turns out there is far more nuance involved in using a neti pot safely. I followed the instructions to the best of my ability, but had more water dribbling down my throat than out my nose. When I blew my nose, the solution was forced into my ears, making me feel like I was underwater. An internet search for "neti pot water in ears" didn't uncover anything more than some forums where people warned that this could lead to ear infections. I couldn't find anything describing how to remove the water. It was scary. In some people, this apparently has lead to hospital visits and weeks of misery. Fortunately, my problem resolved within several hours. But after my scary experience, I don't think I'll be using the neti pot again. I want to emphasize that this is not the fault of the pot itself, as it seems to be well made and easy to use. But it REALLY should come with a detailed description of how to safely use it, along with potential hazards that can arise from incorrect use. If you've never used a neti pot before, do so at your own risk, because it can be dangerous. Do your research first. |
