Great mix of rhythms and sounds.
RailRoad John
I like a little beach sometimes (No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems is a great song) but this album is nothing but beach!

Just the kind of music I like to listen to and it makes me feel relaxed.

Go figure - most of the media has heralded this as his best work, while the majority of the user reviews here are obviously disappointed and looking for more of the same commercial country music. "Be as you are" was the beginning of Kenny's island sound, then "Lucky Old Sun" (still one of my favorite all time albums) continued it while being a bit sad in tone due to his personal situation at the time. Now I may be way off, but I think this album defines Kenny Chesney, who he actually is, and therefore as an artist. If I had my way, I would hope he puts out album after album like this, its fantastic music and its authentic. He isn't trying to copy Jimmy Buffett - he's just writing songs (penned 8 of them on this album) that reflect the life he leads.

I just spent 4 days in Marco Island, and listened to nothing but this album. If it isn't for you, I get it.. but don't bash on him for writing songs from the heart. Instead, go find another commercial country album.. they're a dime a dozen. And for the rest of you, prop your feet up, travel to the islands, smell the ocean air and put on "Lindy" or "That time of Day".. there isn't nearly enough music as good as this. Thank you Kenny!!

I can hear the rally cry now, "Give me consistancy, or give me Death!" It seems these days that an artist's fans are always at the ready to crucify them if they dare veer off that beaten path that took them to commercial success. One need look no further than Kenny's pal, Bob Ritchie (aka Kid Rock) and his Southern Rock revival. No matter how you slice it, though, there's lots to like about "Life On A Rock", Chesney's third installment celebrating the laid back life. I personally like the island sound, or Gulf and Western as it's affectionately known. There will be the inevitable comparisons to the King of the Calypso Poets himself, Mr. Jimmy Buffett, but Kenny provides his own take on escapism, and does it with a voice that Bubba could only dream about. They do share one thing, the exceptional songwriting talent of Mac MacAnally, who has penned several songs for both singers.

Pirate Flag was a good choice to lead it off and satisfy the concert crowd faithful. The rest is a bit of a mixed bag. There's still enough Western here to balance out the Gulf, but it's not hard to see where Chesney's heart really lies. Let's be honest now, who doesn't cherish the thought of soaking up the sun on a tropical paradise where your only concern is whether to have an ice cold beer, or order up another boat drink? Love it or hate it, Kenny's fascination with the Caribbean is here to stay. So, to all the die hard hillbillies out there, get over it! Grab a drink, find your own personal utopia, and just enjoy it for what it is...a great little collection of cool summer tunes.

I love this new album... it kind of feels like you're hanging out at your favorite sunny watering hole and kenny's there live, singing. Great beach day music or hanging in the backyard with friends and drinks, music.

I was hoping he'd go back to the old blue chair...and he did. Great stuff to relax to, to chill to, to have a few cold ones to, and overall just leave this rat race....and go to a Rock.

Good variety of island anthems and beach jams especially the collaboration with The Wailers on Spread the Love, makes you want to get away and spend some more of your life on a rock!

For a long stretch, Kenny was in a funk. His albums were so mournful that some fans drifted off, looking for a more upbeat vibe.

If you left, come back. This collection, much of it written by the new improved Kenny, has the island feel that we all associated with the sailor-beach boy of old. The writing is great, the tunes are infectious, the beat foot-tapping. I have listened to this CD for a month and I still love it.

Welcome home!

I am a big fan of Kenny. i have to say that this album is just a very different style from his past. Other than pirate flag all the other songs on this album are really really mellow. Not that their so bad but just a different side of Kenny. Not his same style of party songs and fun times as I have been used to him in the past
