It was useful in my trip to India (lots of scheduled power cuts) but was also a nuisance to keep winding the charger more often that I wanted to. Charge does not actually last as long the manufacturer claims. If there was power failure or if you are going out in the woods this could come in handy though I am not sure how many nights one can survive with this.

I also use it when there is power mainly to search for things, reading in the bed (single led mode), going for a walk after dark etc.

So it takes a little bit of sacrifice to be eco-friendly (at least in perception) or independent from being tied to the store for everything.
