Joe Johnson is a "New Breed",
By Danté "DonDadaism" (Nashville, TN.) - See all my reviews

This is not your typical Jazz CD. Life of the Party is the bridge between Urban Culture, Old Skool', Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk and R & B. I would definately recommend this CD for anyone that's looking for a new way to listen to Jazz Music; although, you can't help but notice his style that represent Great Legends like G. Washington, Jr., "Yardbird Parker", etc...
While listening to this CD I noticed: * Technical Expressions * New Sounds * Tonalities * Clean Delivery * Extention of Range * Extention of Dynamics Bottom Line: Other than the fact that you'll want more, It's worth every cent! Don't Take my word for it, Go COP IT!!!!!

I bought this CD on the recommendation of one my friends and I must say I am throughly impressed! I highly recommend this CD for anyone who likes urban music mixed with smooth jazz. I also noticed that while he covered some of the most popular songs on the urban scene, there was no singing only saxophone, that tells me he put a lot of time into arrangements by not taking the easy way out. Although I like all the songs, my favorites are track 1, 8 and 10. This CD is easy on the ears and Joe is easy on the eyes.

Smooth as Silk!,

From start to finish this CD is awesome! It's so smooth that we're keeping it on repeat. It's the perfect "let's just chill tonight" CD. Life of the Party has a great mix of familiar and new melodies. You can't help but smile as you reminisce about the good times. Jazz lovers old and new will love this project. It's what urban jazz should be about, smooth as silk. This CD is a keeper.

I got my Cd and all I could say it that "This thing is banging"!!!!!! Johnson's Cd has a real Street but Laid back kind of vibe to it thats not often heard . There is wwaaaayyy more sax playing on this CD than most urban based jazz records and he did it "without any cheesy" vocal overdubs. Joe let his horn do all the talking and his sax tone and chops are outstanding!!! He has his own voice (sound) on the horn unlike many others (ex. Think Everette Harp with a mix of David Sanborn and a dash of Kirk Whalum). Life of the Party is good as (if not better than) any smooth jazz cd I've heard in a long long time.

I absolutely loved this CD! I was at the album release party and witnessed Joe perform live. After seeing him perform I didn't think he could get any better than that, but after listening to the entire CD, I must say that I am now a permanent fan of his. America get ready because the next jazz superstar has been born!

This is the best urban smooth jazz CD I've heard in along time. There is not one song on this CD I do not like! I recommend this album to anyone who liked the Hidden Beach recordings. Although this is an independent recording, Joe is definitely a high caliber musician.

Life of the Party- The Ultimate Party and Traveling CD,

I am really enjoying this CD. I am Joe's best friend and fan. I have been knowing him for the past fifteen years and I have had the pleasure of seeing him grow personally and professionally. This is some of his best work. Be a part of history by purchasing this CD and sharing this phenomenal musician's talent with family and friends. I was at the album release party on February 5th in Nashville and I was moved by the five star performance. I told Joe and his wife that the show was one the best shows that I have ever seen. Meanwhile, the CD is slammin'. I like Donnell Jones' ("You Know What's Up"), Erika Badu's ("Didn't Cha Know") and Alisha Keys'(You Don't Know My Name") tones. I played it in the barbershop Saturday and everyone wanted it. Please go out and get the CD. Joe's CD is right up there with Norman Brown and Kirk Whalum's debut CDs. It is a must have for people who like Urban Jazz.

I must say that I get excited every time I find an indie project that just blows me away! This happens to be one of those projects. While it is just cover tunes for great recent R&B hits like "Sumthin Sumthin," "U Know What's Up," and others. I just really like these as my get started tracks for my day. Definitely worth the investment.

I brought this CD at Joe's sold out release concert in Nashville Tn and all of my co-workers can't get enough of it. I sent them here to amazon.com to purchase their own copies. His playing is outstanding and the mix sounds sooooooo good. This is by far one of the best Smooth Jazz cd's that I own. I like Joe's version of "My Life" better than Mary J. Bliges original!
