Absolutely Stunning,
By
This review is from: Life of Party (Audio CD)
The fabulous Planet Smashers come back to us with yet another cd. Does it fall short of the finish line? Does it fail even before its started? Absolutely Not!Pop in the cd and you immediately get the album's title track playing at you "Life of the Party". What a starting song it is! Ear catching horn lines, head shattering driving guitar there is nothing that can stop this amazing track. Moving onto later tracks the cd does not disappoint. There's some brilliantly conceived enjoyable tracks such as "Surfin in Tofino" and "Super Orgy Porno Party" that you just can't help but move an appendage to, whether it be your arm, foot, or elsewhere. The Planet Smashers have - I'm happy to say - not strayed from their style as many bands do with later albums. They've kept the same old formula and it delivers a heart stoppingly good array of songs. The same sort of lyrics, the same sort of singing, the same sort of music but does that really matter? Its fantastic, thats all that matters, you'd be an idiot not to buy this.

Sexy ska?,
By Just a girl who loves music (Michigan) - See all my reviews

Okay, i dont know if anybody has ever coined the term- but im gonna do it now. This stuff is SEXY. This is actually one of the best 3rd wave ska bands i have ever heard- they're very smooth and they know how to use their horn section. They also dont cash in on the whole "punk-ska" thing that everybody is trying to do. I love it! If you're a ska fan- you'll LOVE the Planet Smashers.

Totally awsome and worth every penny. Planet Smashers may be unknown but their use of Saxophone and Bass and Trumpets really Kick Butt. Their songs are awsome especially the ones without words.

Prue Ska Greatness,

Love this album. This is 45 minutes of prue ska bliss. These guys play a more traditional style of ska with excellent horn arrangements and at times some very funny songs. That being said the tempos and sounds of the songs are very different - this is not oneof those albums where all teh songs sound alike after a while. These guys are a serious and mature band and this album ctahces them in their prime.
If I was to make the purchase again I would have bought the multi-pack that has this and there first two album together along with a live DVD. That being said this CD stands up on its own. A great addition to any ska collection.

Slept on ska,

A lot of people I've talked to have never heard of this band, let alone this CD. They didn't sky rocket to fame with a cover like so many other ska bands of the time, but this CD alone is proof that they deserve to be included in the list of great third wave ska bands.
Not a punk-ska band, these guys sound quintessentially 3rd wave (not especially punky, not overly "rootsy"): great horn lines, smooth vocals, clean sounding guitar, chugging basslines. Perhaps I would have caught on to this band if they had been on Moon Ska (or Jump Up). The title track jumps out and gets you going, and the rest of the CD is great. Personal favorite is "Swayed" it's one of the mellower songs, but I just love that chorus, it's quite lush for a ska song. Regardless, buy this CD and find your own fave track.

I saw these guys play live at Warped Tour and they rocked! They may have been stuck on the Volcom stage, but they should have been on a main stage. This CD rocks...Planet Smashers RULE!
