This review is from: The Life of Paul: A Servant of Jesus Christ (Bible Character Series) (Paperback)
Being both a student and a teacher of the Bible I found this commentary on the 'man' Paul most insightful. Originally published in London in 1897 this version has been edited for modern English. Attempts to read Meyer, Moody, or Spurgeon, (all contemporaries - Meyer and Moody were friends), in the vernacular of late 19th century London is more a challenge than I care to suffer, and Lance Wubbels has done a yoeman's task in providing these old masterpieces for today's reader.
As to the commentary on Paul, I found the author thoughtful and perceptive in 'reading between the lines' of scripture to reveal attributes of Paul's character not readily seen. While some of "The Life of Paul" is derived of assumption and inference, on the whole it is a logical and, as noted, thoughtful extrapolation. I anticipate reading additional Meyer commentaries on David, Abraham, Moses, and Joseph. |
