helpful for everyone needing emotional helaing,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Life Recovery Bible NLT (Paperback)
We have found this Bible extreemley helpful for new Christians in our Alpha group, many of whom are coming out of all kinds of recovery from all kinds of addiction. The insights, reflections and commentary sections are especially wonderful for all who have come out of abusive relationships or who have been victimized by those in addiction. We found that reading the Bible notes in this way gave folks another way to see through the eyes of someone in active recovery. It is difficult if not impossible sometimes to make amends for actions we may have done while in addictive states and the guilt and shame that results is often a horrible burden to live with. With the Word of God and the notes that follow, this is dealt with in a healthy way, showing us that only GOd can heal either person involved in an addictive relationship. This Bible was also given to me as one to use when recovering from manic depression. While not all manic depressives are addicts, many have done things in their lives, that they must deal with as consequences, that cause the same results as an addicts may. In the area of guilt, shame, and hope, the recovery Bible is amazing tool for those suffering from the ravages of mental illness and its devasting consequences. While we take responsibilitiy for our actions, we realize that with GOd's help there is hope. A wonderful tool for all in any sort of recovery, and a wonderful tool for those running small groups in churches as well as reovery groups and new Christian groups.

Best Christian view of the Twelve Steps,
By
This review is from: The Life Recovery Bible NLT (Paperback)
I have been clean and sober for more than 25 years and after I became a Christian, I looked for something that would help tie the two together. Generally I have been disapointed, the things I found clearly did not really understand the Steps. But when I got this Bible I no longer needed to search.
This Bible shows an understanding of the Bible, Christianity and an understanding of how the Twelve Steps really work in my life. Every time I pick up the Life Recovery Bible I find things that speak to me, inspire me and help me live life on life's terms. I recommend this to people I sponsor and have bought copies to give away. I love this book.

Knowledge of His Will for us,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Life Recovery Bible NLT (Paperback)
Shalom, "The Life Recovery Bible" has truly been a God-sent resource of revelation in my recovery. The insight, the answers, and the "ease-of-understanding" provided by this Bible is like a living and refreshing drink of water to a barren soul!It is THE text book of our "Alcoholics Victorious" group, assisting souls to the Joy and Freedom available to anybody... especially those in recovery... through God's True and Living Word. I have read many, many books and spiritual publications in my life-long "program" of healing; this is the Word of God- containing the essence of the required healing power- written in a language easy for the recovering person to accept and understand. I thank the authors for their obedience to His guidance, I thank the publishers for their making this resource avalable to the population, and - most of all- I thank God for His Love, His Mercy, and His Son, Jesus, for taking our disease, and freeing us from our bondage. If you are in recovery, you will be better off with this Bible. In Christ, Amen.

I am a regular listener to Steven Arterburn on the radio--and have read several of his books. He frequently gives this Bible outrecommends it to listeners, so I couldn't resist the urge to check it out for myself. The primary reason I purchased it was to read the study helps, as I know that he has some tremendous insights into the recovery process from a biblical perspective. I was not disappointed. I received a bonus though when I began reading the text of the Bible. The New Living Translation is without a doubt one of the most readable (without sacrificing accuracy) translations that I have read. It is like reading one of those good novels that you cannot put down. Within a week of purchasing it, I had read the books of Acts, Romans, Ephesians, I and II Timothy, and am halfway through the book of Matthew. It is that good. One of the problems with older translations (i.e. the KJV) is that you have to mentally translate what is being said into language that you are familiar with. Its like a person who's first language is Spanish, but speaks English fluently as a second language. Unconsciously, they have to filter an English conversation through their natural Spanish proclivity. When they communicate in Spanish, that process is not necessary. That's the way that I found reading the NLT. It freed my mind of a distraction so that I was more free to hear the Holy Spirit. Doing so gave me some insight into one passage in particular that I had never received reading other versions. I would highly recommend this Bible to new believers. I would also recommend it (especially for devotional reading) to seasoned bible students. As has been said in several other reviews, the study aids are helpful to ANY Christian. We are all in recovery. Some of our addictions are just more socially acceptable than others. I give this Bible 5 stars!

Not being particularly strong in the word of God, as I have struggled with my issues in recovery, this book has been an amazing resource. Many times lessons I have read have not made sense to me, and I haven't been able to see the relevance in my life. This book really has provided wonderful insights to me, and makes the study of the Bible very pertinent to me. I highly recommend this to anyone who is on the healing process.

This Bible is a Blessing!,

I own about 5 other bibles, but none of them compare to the ease of reading, spiritual insights, and overall encouragement on my path of spiritual recovery. I use The Life Recovery Bible in conjunction with Steve Arterburn's "Healing is a Choice 40 day challenge ( a list of affirmations www.healingisachoice.com )to start my day.
Although it might be nice to have this bible in another translation, I believe that what makes this book such a useful tool is the use of the New Living Translation. This version speaks to me in a way that none of the other versions do. When I want to memorize scripture, I go to the NKJV (New King James Version) or the NIV (New International Version). When I go to church I use the NKJV. When I want to be encouraged, strengthened, and to apply the Word of God to my life using the principles of the 12 steps, I read The Life Recovery Bible. The Serenity, 12 Step sections, and Personality Profiles are very helpful to me. In addition to being a great book for those seeking recovery or in recovery from addictions of any kind, I believe this bible will be a great gift for a new Christian or to anyone who is interested in finding out what being a Christian is all about.

Recovery from G_d's point of view,
By J. Companion "Public school teacher" (Gardena, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Life Recovery Bible NLT (Paperback)
This copy of G_d's Word has so many helps in it for those in a recovery group or attempting recovery on their own. By using the indexes in the back of this Bible, the reader can zero-in on the facets of each of the Twelve Steps and find an appropriate Scriptural principle. Each Step is illustrated by several passages in the Bible, along with commentary by Dr. Stoop. This is not a study Bible, in the customary sense, but a Bible that will cause the recoverer to study what G_d wants to do in her/his recovery. The New Living Translation is easy to read, but I usually read a word-for-word translation along with it (NASB, NKJV, ESV), so as to not miss a thought!

Life Recovery Bible - NLT,
By Jonathan Woodward (Gladstone, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Life Recovery Bible NLT (Paperback)
This is a very good help especially for those going through any kind of recovery. The 12 Step Devotionals are all linked to the Biblical truth they came from, and are explained for application right now today. It is awesome and lifechanging to discover that Jesus Christ is our "higher power", and that by His death He paid for our sins, and by His resurrection from the dead He gives us new life. In Him we can be forgiven, delivered from addictions, and harmful habits, and healed from longstanding life pains. The Life Recovery Bible is a great compliment to the Celebrate Recovery Program put out by Saddleback Church in California. My only criticism is that the New Living Translation is not always as accurate to the original languages as I would prefer, but it is very well done, and extremely easy to read and understand.

Nothing Short of God's Miracle (INFINITY STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!),
This review is from: The Life Recovery Bible NLT (Paperback)
This Bible gives the Word of God to those going through recovery in a translation that is easily applicable to today's readers' lifes and is easily read and understood by those who read it. It also supplies readers with all the footnotes used in the translation. But what makes this Bible stand out from any others is the amount of devotional material it contains. Each of the 66 books has reflections on recovery at the beginning and then end of the book. Also, it contains footnotes with recovery reflections on almost every passage of scripture imaginable! The Bible gives readers 84 12 step devotionals, as well as numerous devotionals on the 8 principles of recovery (the beattitudes) and the serenity prayer. It has an abundant index of topical references that anyone could use. I have only been in recovery for about a month, but this Bible has given me profound insight to the 12 steps and has been a key tool in aiding my recovery. I am thoroughly convinced that the Bible is anyone's key to recovery, and this Bible is an almost necessary item to complete that faith-based recovery. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY reccommend this Bible, and if I could give it an infinite number of stars, I would!!!!!
