A worthy adventure,
By
This review is from: The Life of Riley the Cat (Paperback)
As a stay at home mom, I read a lot of children's books. As a school librarian I read a lot more. This book is a real treasure.
Riley finds herself on a journey after hearing an unsettling noise. Once she finds the creature that makes the noise and learns how it helps farmers, Riely wonders about her purpose. She needs to know if cats are beneficial in any way. The children listening to this story will learn along with Riely about a host of creatures, some of which they might even have been wary of, only to find out that these creatures are very important to the environment that we all share. The illustration's are sweet and lulling, they flow perfectly with the story. This book is a BIG HIT with the students from pre-k to second grade. The children were actually fighting over who would get to take it out next. The only solution we had was to make out a waiting list to keep peace! This list is full till the end of school year. "The Life of Riely the Cat" is a wonderful story, and you will love it as much as your children!

A Kid's Review

by BRITTANY 7-year-old homeschooled 2nd-grader
"The Life of Riley the Cat" by Julie Akerson Chicos is about a cat that meets Simon the crow who tells Riley the cat how helpful he is to farmers. This makes Riley wonder what she does to help others. She meets a variety of other creatures that each tell her how they help other animals and humans. At the end of her journey, Riley discovers the important job she does: She provides unconditional love and affection to her family, which keeps her family happy and healthy. The pen and watercolor pictures by Jennifer Taylor are bright and colorful. My favorite is of the cat with the bee on page 11. I think kids that like cats or animals will like this story. Young children have been a part of my life for years and this story had them wide-eyed and curious. The story playfully guided them through topics of self-worth and finding value in the differences of others. The author's approach to sharing this bit of wisdom was warm and welcoming. It was a joyful read, one of my favorites and I strongly recommend it children everywhere.

a curious kitty,

This review is from: The Life of Riley the Cat (Paperback)
Meet Riley, a curious kitty who goes in search of discovering what it means to be a cat. Does he have a purpose like so many of those other creatures that he meets? Time will tell and in the meantime young readers will come to learn a thing or two themselves.
Riley first meets Simon the crow, who isn't very kind when he tells Riley that cats don't sound very important. This sets the plot in motion, and Riley comes to understand how spiders, bees, and beavers are all very useful creatures. When she meets a wise bat, named Bart, she learns the most important thing of all - that you have to look deep inside yourself to see what it is that you can do to make the world a better place. Children will learn this lesson along with Riley but will also come to see that everyone is important in some way and that being different isn't a bad thing. Back home, Riley is reminded of the most important job of all - being part of a loving family. I highly recommend this book to every child, everywhere! The text is well written, friendly and captivating, the characters are interesting, Riley is extremely lovable, and the illustrations are sweet and inviting. The messages of the book are appropriate and important for all children to learn. I would like to give a copy of this book to every child I know, and one to every child I don't know! Parents will be reading this book to their little ones time and time again, as it should be.

A thoroughly charming, short, fictional tale.,
By
This review is from: The Life of Riley the Cat (Paperback)
Living an extremely comfortable, desirable life with her pal Owen, Riley, a grey tabby feline, gives in to her curiosity as she watches a crow in a tree outside. She leaves the house to join the bird, and thus begins her quest not only to find out about the lives of other creatures but to establish her worth and identity in the world.
Chicos gives children some great facts about some of our not so fuzzy friends such as; crows, spiders, bees, beavers and a bat. (Bart the bat teaches a vital lesson-"that you have to look deep inside yourself to see how you can make the world a better place") Chicos' moral is that each creature, big or small, occupies its own place in the universe, and being different is not a bad thing. The tale also teaches children compassion and concern for our animal friends. Riley's journey, of course, ends on a happy note and her curiosity about others makes her conclude that she, too, has a real purpose in life. The soft back book is easy to read and easily comprehended by children when their parents read to them at bedtime.

Great Book! When is the movie coming out?,
By Anthony Demarco (Braintree Ma) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Life of Riley the Cat (Paperback)
I think this is a great book for children! My little one loved the story and the pictures, what more could one ask for? I found it very well written and and very entertaining. When is the movie coming out? I love stories from the heart, but who doesn't? Oh yeah the twisted, jealous person who wrote those negative reviews. She wants her money back? In her reviews, she rips a book about a cat and slobbers praise all over Anne Coulter. Can someone say pathetic?
