Trifids and Penises?!?!, October 29, 1998

This review is from: Life on the Road: The Incredible Rock 'N' Roll Adventures of Dinky Dawson (Paperback)
Halucinagins pale to the trip Dinky has taken me on. I am amazed that one man has been a part of the lives of my favorite rock icons - Fleetwood Mac, Lou Reed, B.B. King - the list goes on and on. The book is written in an easy style that paints a clear picture of what it was like to live in the 60'-70's - really. The book doesn't harp on the Woodstock cliches, but explains the experiences on planes, in hotel rooms, women, back alley venues to huge stadiums - the book is a series of anecdotes that crystalizes an era. BUT - this biography, documentary, historical record is FUNNY as Hell! Carter Allen kicks butt. I will not ramble on - this is a great book and I highly recommend it.

Important Behind The Scenes Information, a Credible Source, April 28, 1999

This review is from: Life on the Road: The Incredible Rock 'N' Roll Adventures of Dinky Dawson (Paperback)
Stuart Dawson is one of the hardest working and kindest human beings you could ever want to meet. His work with The Byrds, Fleetwood Mac, Lou Reed, Steely Dan, etc. etc. etc. islegend. He engineered two of the last three Roy Orbison concerts before Mr. Orbison passed away. The show was magical...it was my second time seeing Roy that year, and thesound was brilliant. When I was incollege I remember skipping classes to buy tickets to The Kinks, Lou Reed at Lenox, Rock & Roll Animal atThe Orpheum, reading this book is like re-living my teens and early 20's...the sound system I sat in front of at the Kinks show (which was an amazing show in itself) is there in the book at the Lou ReedLenox gig in all its' zillions of four inch speakers glory. This book is an historical document that needs to be read by anyone interested in rock history, the aforementioned bands, or the escapades of a madcap sound engineer. It is one of the best rock books ever written, and Carter Alan deserves credit for being able to take the mountains of information and distell it all into a highly enjoyable and easy to read collection. This book is GREAT>
