4.0 out of 5 stars I really needed this book
Several months of being WAY stressed out and I decided to take a little stoll in the self help section to come across this book. I read it in only a few days (put it down/picked it up). It made me laugh out loud a few times. I'm now searching for more things from this author (I never knew she was out there). Several other women in my life are in bad...

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute title story is too little for most.
If the book's title and the story behind the title were typed on one sheet of paper, you could post it and read it often to remind yourself that life is short, so live every day. For a few of us, that is how shallow most of our problems really are and therefore we probably do not need this book, just that one story. For many, however, their problems are real, their stress...

It made me laugh out loud a few times. I'm now searching for more things from this author (I never knew she was out there). Several other women in my life are in bad relationships...this book made me think...what the heck are you doing in an unhappy situation? Life IS short. Why do we waste our time stressing ourselves out instead of enjoying life? And the mention of getting angry over being caught in traffic, etc...that was me. She makes you want to sit back, relax, and enjoy the little things around you that you never notice because you are in too big of a rush.

5.0 out of 5 stars Celebrate Your Life, June 16, 2004
This review is from: Life Is Short, Wear Your Party Pants (Paperback)
"What does not destroy me, makes me stronger." ~Friedrich Nietzsche

"Life is Short" is a book about making the choice to live an extraordinary life. It is about showing appreciation, giving more hugs and being more forgiving. Loretta explores a variety of beliefs and shows how stress is a signal to change your life. She brings out some interesting points about conversation being a deep and personal form of bonding and gives practical ways you can reconnect to family and friends.

Throughout the book Loretta shares her life, explains the concept of having a higher life purpose and promotes the idea of living in the present.

The cover and inner design is highly creative. I loved the little party pants on each page and the abundance of inspiring quotes by Mother Teresa, Ashley Montagu, Arthur Rubinstein and many others.

Each chapter has a creative title and a meaningful affirmation. Chapter 10 is entitled: "Join the Party! ("An amazing life requires connection."). Loretta discusses the concepts of stress, optimism, acceptance, humor, creativity, moderation, responsibility, meaning and connection.

Unique Topics Include:

Keeping a Joy Journal
Boost Your Word Power; Boost Your Mood
Eight Reasons We Can't Lighten Up
Ten Simple Ways to Connect Today

The list of "How we create a pessimistic life" was also humorously entitled "Ten Ways to Struggle and Live on the Dark Side." Loretta LaRoche has written this book to help you step into the light of love, laughter and living. Through her writing she shows how we waste so many hours on the dark side and gives practical ways we can step towards the light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hits the funny bone..., February 18, 2004
By A Customer
This is the first self-help book that I have read from cover to cover. Miss Loretta delivers sound commonsense advice and she is funny with it. She is not preaching she is just directing and advising...which is the best way to get my attention. Having read the book and talked about it, a friend told me about the CD...well I have not laughed so much in a long, long time (especially by myself). The audio version of her book will have you in stitches...it contains live performances from her various show and it's funny as hell. I listen to it in the office when people are getting on my nerves, in traffic when the radio is boring...each time I find something new to think about, and the message stays with me.
Life IS short, we know this but we don't pay attention...until it's to late. Put on YOUR panty pants and give this book or CD a whirl...you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will make you laugh, but also think!, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Life Is Short, Wear Your Party Pants (Paperback)
I've liked seeing Loretta LaRoche on various PBS specials, but until
now, had never read anything by her . . . what a shame!

LIFE IS SHORT, WEAR YOUR PARTY PANTS made me laugh, but it also got me to think about the fact that things such
as party pants shouldn't be saved for later--they should be enjoyed now.

LaRoche, a stress management consultant, presents such ideas
in a humorous, easy-to-apply fashion . . . such as this one:
keep a joy journal . . . she notes that, "Keeping a joy journal
will help you maintain a feeling of elation, the sense that you're
searing with the eagles instead of scratching in the dirt with the
turkey."

As to what to put down in such a journal, she suggests that
you try some of these ideas to move you in the right direction:

1. Think of people who have really made a positive difference
in your life.

2. List three of four things that you do well.

3. Write down at least five things that you like about yourself.

4. Think of a time in which you had so much love in your heart
that you thought it would burst.

5. Think of some of the favorite physical activities you enjoyed as a child
(swimming, jumping rope, roller skating?). List them, and think about ways
you might do them again.

6. Think of five qualities you adore in your partner or spouse.
Write them down, and tell him or her about them.

7. Think back to a time when you felt supported while going
through a challenge. How did this feel, in detail?

8. Remember three time when you felt inner peace and serenity.
Can you capture that feeling? Where were you? Why were
you feeling so good?

9. Think of someone you might forgive, and how doing so might
change your life.

10. Whom do you laugh with the most? Remember a time when
you laughed so hard you thought you'd fall over.

And laugh is what you'll do when you think of this one other
technique advocated by LaRoche . . . she says, "Don't
indulge yourself, but don't deny yourself either. It's unhealthy to
eat mounds of lasagna every day, but it's just as unhealthy
to want it and never allow yourself the pleasure of having some.
One of my favorite lines is 'Just have lasagna and shut up!' "

Thanks, Loretta . . . methinks I'll do that now; i.e., stop
writing this review now and start eating some ice cream
instead . . . I'll even be quiet when I do so.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loretta will always make you laugh at and with yourself, January 31, 2005
Life is Short: Wear Your Party Pants by Loretta LaRoche is as delightfully funny as she herself is in her speaking engagements all over the country. Loretta learned early in her painful childhood to be the clown in the family to boost the spirits of the rest of the family members. Learning to deal with her own problems in a healthy way through laughter, she became an expert in helping others with her Ten Simple Thruths That Lead To An Amazing Life. These truths include resilience, living in the moment, optimism, acceptance, humor, creativity, moderation, responsibility, meaning, and connection. In each chapter she gives fun and resourceful ways to learn how to handle life using these great tools, with laughter being the key ingredient that helps relieve stress. You'll laugh at her and with her and at yourself as you read and practice her simple truths. And life WILL grow less stressful and lots more fun as you learn from her that when you turn your patter of being "stressed" around you get wonderful "desserts!"

4.0 out of 5 stars Words of wisdom to help you put your life in perspective., August 8, 2003
When Loretta Laroche was a little girl her mom bought her sturdy but ugly underwear. She owned one pair of pretty panties but she was only allowed to wear them on special occasions. Thus they were only worn twice. Since that time Loretta has been scrambling to enjoy the good life NOW not save the good life for LATER.

And this book is all about enjoying your life in the present moment. Loretta cautions you to not save your fine china for a rainy day use it now. Don't put off what you want to do, do it now.

Enjoy what gives you pleasure and make the most of your time here on earth. The book is written in an easy to read style. Quick and light. Each chapter sharing another nugget of Loretta's joy of life.

The one thing I did not like about the book was Loretta's continual references to her weight problem. This was mentioned several times throughout the book. It seems that if Loretta followed her own advice of moderation in everything, and if she set it as a goal she really wanted to achieve she should be able to solve her weight issue. Loretta - practise what you preach!

Aside from that the author shares a lot of lively insights that make you realize how much pleasure you will have if you focus and enjoy the present instead of thinking about the future.

LIFE IS SHORT...WEAR YOUR PARTY PANTS
By
Loretta LaRoche

Loretta La Roche is my hero. I went to the library once and asked the librarian to give me everything she had on love, laughter and joy. That is the first day I brought Loretta home and I was so moved by her message I have been a devoted fan ever since. If someone I know seems a bit down, I will tell them they need a little dose of Loretta!

She makes me laugh till I cry. I wrote her a fan letter and she wrote back! I love this lady. She makes us laugh at our self! Whenever I hear the words, ta dah, I think of her!

I keep her book, Life is Short, Wear Your Party Pants on my night stand along with a few other well chosen books, to keep close to my heart. All her books are like reference books for me. There is a section in the back for notes and I have every inch of space completely covered. Every time I pick it up, I take something positive away with me.

Her humor delights me and sometimes, just hearing her voice (I have all her tapes) I automatically start Laughing ...which happens to be one of my favorite activities and according to Loretta it works wonders to lower your stress levels which increases your immune system and on and on!

I wish we had more people like her. Do yourself a favor and fill up your cart with whatever she has to sell, you will not regret it for a second! I own every single book, tape, cd, video and silly kit she has to offer....did I mention how much she makes me laugh?

She is one funny lady, and because of her, I wear my party pants all the time! Order her book today! Do not pass go or collect $200.

Loretta LaRoche has an amazing ability to transform stress into laughter. I first saw one of Loretta's television specials about 15 years ago and it honestly changed my life. She taught me how to "lighten up" and to look at things in a way that would make me laugh instead of cry.
This book is just another fabulous example of Loretta's sound advice and ideas to help you live a happier and less stressful life. I loved her "party pants" story and have found myself retelling it to friends and family to make a point and make them laugh.
Loretta tells it like it is using loads of humor and memorable quotes throughout the entire book. If you need to learn how to reduce stress in your life, there isn't a more enjoyable way to do it than to read this book. Congratulations to Loretta for turning millions of frowns into laughter.
