Life is beautiful,

In a day and age where music has either become overly dark or bubble gum cheesy, Smith and Mighty remind the world how good happiness can sound. These originators of trip hop with the aid of long time collaborator Peter Rose have released the best "dance" album of 2002 with Life Is. What does it sound like? It sounds like you want to feel. Confident. Serene. Excited. Positive. Conscious. Beautiful. Many think of Smith and Mighty as a mixture of Massive Attack and older Roni Size. That's not far from the truth except that as much as I like those other guys, Smith and Mighty seem never to follow the trend or go against the grain. Somehow, after some 15 years in the art they seem to create the trends.

Life has a way, of showing you a new day.,

This is one of my favourite Smith & Mighty albums. I think it's better than their previous album Big World Small World as a whole, being more upbeat, diverse and catchy, and just as great as their first album, Bass Is Maternal. Life Is... is quite urban with high doses of conscious reggae, soul, Jamaican toasting and brit rap. Positive and thoughtful lyrics about life and love, and danceable production of beats, bass and dub.
Definitely worth adding to your collection of trip-hop, reggae, urban and soul albums, and you definitely most have the DJ Kicks Smith & Mighty mix and their drum n bass music from their alternate group name More Rockers Selection 2. |
