Baptised in the Holy Ghost, July 2, 2000
This review is from: Life in the Spirit Seminars Team Manual: Catholic Edition (Paperback)
This manual is good if one wants to teach a class to led people into the baptism of the Holy Ghost. The book is very clear and will assist a person step by step into leading people to understand that the Holy Spirit wants to enter their lives and empower them to do the works of the Christ.

Very Dissapointed, July 17, 2007
This review is from: Life in the Spirit Seminars Team Manual: Catholic Edition (Paperback)
I am very dissapointed with this manual. It is the manual that every cathoic church I know that does the Life in the Spirit Seminar uses. I have been to several different churches to participate and also to teach the seminar and I find that the format is very unfruitful.
The last seminar that we did we had 30 people attend and after the seminar was over, no one came back!
I can't recommend this book, as I just don't think it is pratical enough, nor does it provide enough information on the gifts of the spirit. I feel that this book doesn't provide enough information on the gifts of the spirit and the talk about the baptism in the spirit and recieving the gift of tongues just doesn't have enough substance.
My last comment is that the Charismatic Renewal here in Massachusetts uses this manual and we have seen great declines in members. I really believe it is do in some part to lack of good and pratical teaching, and I think this book lacks what we need to help people grow.
So the question in my mind is What do we use for the Life in the Spirit Seminar? I'm not sure I have the answer, but on book "The Holy Spirit and You" which I have been reading seems to be more to my tastes. It seems more practical, and covers more bases than the Life in the Spirit Manual. They also have a study guide that goes along with it and a Teachers manual. Though Dennis and Rita Bennett that wrote it are Episcopal I find it an amazing book. It explains all the gifts of the spirit, and how they are used and how they are not to be used. Also they explain the conterfiet gifts of the demonic world, along with What is a Christian, How to be Baptized in the Spirt, Speaking in Tongues, Renouncement of the Occult, Renewing of the Mind. I would recommend this over anything else I have read. Though you may need to make a few corrections in the material, and I mean a very few that may not go along with our Catholic Tradion, this is the best course that I have seen by far.
