The Structures of old are long gone so if that's who you're expecting to hear on this album, you're in for a surprise. The big question is whether or not it was a "good" change. I, for one, am happy they didn't repeat themselves. I think it was a very smart move to distance themselves a little bit from Divided By & All of the Above because putting out the same album time after time is pointless. They wrote both of those albums between the ages of 16-20 & the metal/djent scene has changed since 2009/2011. Is it better than Divided By & AOTA? That's impossible to answer. All I can say is that it's absolutely crystal clear this is the album THEY WANTED to make. You hear it almost immediately. There's a certainty to the songs that I never heard on the the first 2 albums. Frankly, I think Life Through a Window is the most focused & mature music they've ever made & it's commendable that they didn't write another album "for the fans". It took real artistic integrity to take the chance they did with LTAW & I strongly believe time will prove they made the right call.

Bands change for better or for worse, we all know that. I personally love their earlier stuff. So much so they became my favorite band. But, I wasn't crazy about Divided By (the first album I actually listened to) at first, just like LTAW. But after enough play-thrus I was absolutely riveted by it & I think the same thing is happening all over again.

The vocals are coming from Brendon, one of the former guitarists & he's got a powerful, emotional, energetic tone. It's somewhat repetitive in comparison to the 3 man vocal attack they utilized before but there are still lots of nuances & little things that went into Brendon's vocals on this album.

Great band, great album, very very disappointing mastering job. Almost obnoxiously loud and over compressed. That is only possible by cutting out all of the low end and that makes it hard to listen to. I've been working on remastering it myself and it's an awesome album when it actually has some low end in it.
