2 STARS FOR THE PHOTOS.....DISSAPOINTING TEXT,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Life in Time and Space: The Biography of David Tennant (Hardcover)
I generally don't write negative reviews but be forewarned: without the pictures this would
not be desireable at all. I bought it for nearly 50% off the retail price and I am suggesting you do the same. I am a big fan of David's but this is a collection of magazine quotes, gossip items re-told, and contains A LOT of filler material. For instance, when the author runs out of facts about a project of David's, he will mention a co-star and ramble incessantly about a non-David-related project of the co-stars. If this had been edited down by 75% and put out as a soft cover magazine it would be passable. There is a filmography at the end of the book which lists David's many projects, many of which are not even brought up in the book. I have learned a lesson on un-authorized biographies~~there is a legitimate reason as to why they are un-authorized. I wish I could have been upbeat about this offering, but I was really dissapointed with it. Hopefully David will eventually write his own autobiography and that will be worth the wait.

I give this book 3 stars mainly because the pictures and dust jacket are swell - nicely chosen, in full color, nicely reproduced. The rest of the book is a great disappointment. It seems to me that everything in it I've read or seen already on the internet. It looks very much like a research dump, which means I coulda done it myself (and that's bad).
I would recommend this book only for those who know nothing at all about David Tennant and are somewhat curious about who he is, where he came from, and what he's done outside Doctor Who -- and who are not able or willing to do a Google search & read the sources this author obviously used. I can't imagine, in the Year of Our Lord 2009, who that would be.

I think the above two reviewers were actually quite generous. If you're thinking about purchasing this book, at any price, first do yourself the favor of reading the first few pages (which, of course, you can do right here on Amazon). Without a doubt the worst writing I've ever seen offered for sale in published form, this book reads like a junior high school student trying his/her hardest to emulate tabloid-style writing (a dubious endeavor at best). Sentences are bent, twisted, tortured, and if you do make it all the way through one it will only be to find it was composed entirely of rehashed gossip, supposition, and the sort of desperate attempt to get into the mind of someone famous that is unfortunately so prevalent these days. I am a fan of David's work, and would have found some actual information on his early days interesting. If such a biography comes out, I'll be there. But this, this isn't it.
