Busy Bees,

This review is from: The Life and Times of the Honeybee (Paperback)
I teach First Grade and we are working on a unit on bees. This book has beautiful illustrations and all anyone would want to know about bees. It also tells about the various types of honey and bees. There is an diagram of a beekeeper in his/her protective clothes. This book has helped make my class wild about bees.

Less than I expected,

This review is from: The Life and Times of the Honeybee (Paperback)
My grandsons wanted to know how bees made their hives. This appeared to be the most comprehensive book for young children available, so I ordered it but was disappointed to find that the one thing it did not explain was how beehives are created in the first place! It's an American book (temperature in F,distance in yards, types of honey common only in the US) which I don't believe was mentioned, but doesn't really matter. The cover is the most attractive part of the book which all in all failed to meet my expectations.

Very good book for learning the life and times of honeybees, one of our greatest resources. We used this with our children to teach them about honeybees.

I have been collecting books about keeping bees. When I retire, that is what I want to do...tend bees. I have many books on the subject written in adult form, but this one is written very simply so that even children can understand it. I first saw it in my school's library and checked it out when I was going to have the children learn a song about bees and listen to Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee." I always try to include a book for visuals in my music lessons. I fell in love with the book and had to order it for myself. It tells the complete life-cycle of the honeybee and the illustrations are wonderful! I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about honeybees!

I purchased this book for my 10 year old son who is passionate about learning all about insects. This book is wonderfully illustrated with short paragrahs and description of the habits and life of the honeybee. I highly recommend it for children of reading age.

I recently checked out a couple of books from the library about bee's for my nine year old granddaughter, who loves honey! She is a bit of a reluctant reader, but I thought a book about something she loves would 'hit the spot' and this one did.
She enjoyed learning about the life of bees through nicely illustrated pages and concise paragraphs. I was surprised at how much I learned, too! There is a two page section that shows some different flowers and trees from which bees gather nectar - that gave me the idea to search local stores and the Internet to buy different types of honey and a honey comb. Having the book and 7 different samples of honey has turned into a wonderful family learning experience. I commend the author, Charles Micucci, for his selection of facts and his presentation of them to young readers. |
