And the vocals were amazing.

I got the album and it blew my mind away I haven't read the book yet but I will and I can't wait to read the adventure about Scrooge McDuck.

It is amazing that he can paint such pictures and tell a story with music.

I'd only heard Lifetime of Adventure when I preordered this, but based on that, I was expecting something a little bit closer to Nightwish. What I got was an amazing score to a (frustratingly) non-existent movie. Roughly half the album is instrumental, and many of the non-instrumental tracks have minimal vocals, or only a voice over.

As you can see by my score, I'm not at all disappointed. I love the album, but be forewarned, most of it sounds more like an alternate Lord of the Rings soundtrack than Nightwish (or any "metal" for that matter... despite where it was shelved in the store when I bought it). In fact, I don't think there's a guitar in the album until Lifetime of Adventure, which is track 9 of 10 (well 11, counting the alternate version of Lifetime of Adventure).

My only real frustration is, this got me really interested in the comics/story it's based on, but it seems even the most recent reprint (2010) has gone out of print and commands quite a high price. I see some other Scrooge comics being reprinted later this year, so maybe I can hold out hope for another rerelease in the not too distant future.

In closing, I loved the album, but check out the samples before buying to know what you're getting in to.

As a die hard Nightwish fan for the past three years, I absolutely had to check out Tuomas' solo project and I was not disappointed! The album consists of quite a few instrumentals which are both beautiful and EPIC. I was hoping that Disney would re-release the actual graphic novel it is based on with the release of this album, but I don't see that coming soon. Which kind of disappoints me because I am also an avid comic book reader (mainly superheroes) and the cheapest price for a USED Life and Times of Scrooge graphic novel is MINIMUM $100.
Anyways, aside from my slight disappointment with Disney, this album is definitely one of the best things I have heard this year and I highly recommend it to any fans who like Nightwish or love to listen to movie soundtracks. I look forward to new Nightwish stuff and anymore Tuomas solo projects if he has any for the upcoming future :)

Like some other reviewers, I thought I would find myself saying that A Lifetime of Adventure was the best track on the album. But I found that I was listening to The Last Sled over and over again. It's definitely my favorite. All the tracks are fun and evocative, definitely worth a listen.

I've been a diehard Nightwish fan for years and heard Toumas had a side project in the works. While it is very different than his work with Nightwish, it's still very well done. In some ways, it may have a broader appeal, being more orchestral and soft in some aspects.
I've never followed Scrooge's story but it does not take away from the enjoyment.

Let me give you a warning: there is NOT a single note of Metal on this album, PERIOD. This might be Tuomas from Nightwish writing the material, but, here he is stepping away from Symphonic Metal and embracing Classical music. If that does not appeal to you, this album is one star and you should not buy it. You can also stop reading at this point.

Now, if you can appreciate well written Classical music with strong Celtic influences, you will enjoy this album. It contains some of Tuomas' strongest material, IMHO, and will hook you on first listen. The music is top notch and plays like the soundtrack of a epic movie, going from grand soundscapes to light vocal pieces seemlessly. Tuomas really takes you on a musical ride throughout the album without it dragging or being "Riverdance Rejects", as another reviewer states.

This album also points to the fact Tuomas could retire from Metal and be a soundtrack composer a la Hans Zimmer if he wanted.

Highly Reccomended!

It seems that everything Tuomas puts his mind to is just amazing. Initially, I was hesitant about the album, but then again, I love Nightwish, so I don't understand why I was. Tuomas is a wonderfully creative artist, and I look forwards to hearing more from him and Nightwish in the not so distant future.

Most Nightwish fans have known that this project was something Tuomas had been planning for a long time and it is well worth the wait. I have never read the comics and don`t think I ever will but that has no impact on how much I enjoy this CD.

For fans of Nightwish, you know that Tuomas is heavily influenced by film score music (i.e. Hans Zimmer). He is IN HIS ELEMENT with this solo project. His heart for the story can be felt in every beat. It had me at the first blow of the pipes in the first song, and didn't let up from there. Best song in my opinion is "The Last Sled." The vocal melodies are so gently beautiful and impeccably sung. If you enjoy the symphony aspect of Nightwish, buy this album. If you enjoy soundtrack music, buy this album. If you enjoy both, you're in for quite a ride. On a side note, can we all tally behind Tuomas to get him to write the music for a movie? Could be the worst movie in existence, but I would see it for that.
