Great comeback album!, May 31, 2008
This review is from: Life Underwater (Audio CD)
I pretty much gave up on these guys after the disaster that was Collapse. But A5A are back and better than ever. After some line-up changes that see their guitar player moving over to do vocals the band are back with an aggressive sound that still has the ability to amaze you with a melody out of nowhere. Seriously, this is probably one of the best albums I have ever heard. Some people may be turned off by the vocals, but I like the fact that they sound unique in this current scene of music where everyone has to have death growls or pig squeals.

Amazing, June 4, 2008
This review is from: Life Underwater (Audio CD)
A5A have always been a band that I liked but never really loved. Collapse wasn't a complete dissapointment but it just never really grabbed me. But it did give me hope for better things and Life Underwater delivers that in spades.
I read some complaints about the vocals, but I think they really stand out on this album. Yes there are a few parts reminiscent of Brother's Keeper, but the singer changes it up with a few different scream styles as well as singing and pulls it off very well. Lyrically this album avoids the tired "heart break" theme and actually tackles some serious issues.
The guitars riffs on this album are amazing and will definitely lead to lots of air guitar attacks. Many solid riffs that really stick with the listener. The songwriting on this album is far beyond any of their other releases.
Stand out tracks are: The Darkest Road, This Means not Welcome and Faith Shaped Pills.
This album grabbed me like no album has since Poison the Well's Opposite of December way back when. Pick this one up and definitely go to see these guys live.

I used to like this kind of music (post hardcore), but there has been a lot of [..] going round lately.
I have to admit, the music is played really well. But the vocals ruin it. If you listen to this cd, you won't be able to get into the groove[..]...better luck next time...[...]
