4.0 out of 5 stars 'Still Searching'...With A Little Bit More
In a sentence, if you liked 'Still Searching', you'll like 'Life Is Not A Waiting Room', and maybe even more.

There seems to be just a tad more emphasis on the guitar work by Garrett and Heath, and there's enough variety in the songs to please most fans of this eclectic group...it seems like they're making an attempt to reach a greater audience...to really...

2.0 out of 5 stars It could have been better
Kinda dissapointed int he album... basically when it came down to it only 2 songs i really liked... Family Tradtion, and Wolves at the door. To a lesser extent Garden State was not bad. Still searching is better than this album because the three singles they released on there were far superior than any material on here. Just not enough catchy riffs in these songs, i...

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Still Searching'...With A Little Bit More, October 7, 2008

In a sentence, if you liked 'Still Searching', you'll like 'Life Is Not A Waiting Room', and maybe even more.

There seems to be just a tad more emphasis on the guitar work by Garrett and Heath, and there's enough variety in the songs to please most fans of this eclectic group...it seems like they're making an attempt to reach a greater audience...to really 'make it'.

Vocalist James "Buddy" Nielsen attempts to sing you through a whirlwind of emotions, and, considering that he broke up with his first-love, long-time girlfriend, and that some songs were inspired by a friend he met who had cancer but didn't make it, he easily succeeds. Although some will beg to differ, I believe Buddy's vocals and the lyrics on this record are outstanding...perhaps his best effort yet.

Despite having everything from very melodic and catchy pop-punk (a very edgy 'Boys Like Girls'?) to heavy, hardcore "screamo" metal, 'Life' excels when different atmospheres are created, such as on 'Fireworks At Dawn', 'Yellow Angels' and 'Map The Streets'.

While I admit I'm not much for the furious fare ('Lungs Like Gallows' and 'Wolves At The Door'), the album is strong from top to bottom...even the small amount of "screamo" is tastefully done.

Overall, Senses Fail shows progress on 'Life Is Not A Waiting Room'...definitely a success in my book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Bad Follow Up..., October 9, 2008
I have all of Senses Fail's albums and have been a fan ever since they came about.

Senses Fail really made an impression with Still Searching and it would be almost impossible to surpass it. "Life is Not a Waiting Room" has some of the qualities that Still Searching has but doesn't quite live up to it. The single "Family Tradition" really sounded a lot like it was going to be the sound of the whole album, but its not. Though it does have some of the best lyrics in any Senses Fail song.

The cd is almost like a mixture of Screamo/Rock. Some songs sound a lot more rockish wish few screaming and others go all out. Buddy Nielsen has the strongest lyrics here more than any other album. It's not a bad album. I was a little bit dissapointed in the fact I thought it was going to be a Still Searching follow up but nonetheless its still a good solid album to listen to.

My favorite songs on the album and the ones to check out are "Life is Not a Waiting Room", "Map the Streets" and "Hair of the Dog." Look for the strong lyrics and the pleasing guitar.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good follow up to Still Searching, October 7, 2008
I first got into Senses Fail via Let It Enfold You,(still their best album), and have stuck with them since. Still Searching was different than LIEY because they seemed to explore musical genres more than the traditional screamo, although some of the later tracks on that album were too boring and nearly un-rock-like. Now picking up this album, I hear songs that could easily have been on LIEY or Still Searching, which is pretty good from a balance perspective. Fast-paced tracks such as "Wolves at the Door" and "Lungs like gallows" are my favorite, although "Blackout" has an excellent bridge. Family Tradition should make for a good single, and I see them gaining even more fans out of this new sound. I give it 4 out of 5 stars mostly because it starts to fall prey to Still Searching's flaw of having 3 or 4 songs I could frankly do without. They come dangerously close to sounding like Panic at the disco or Fall-out boy in these moments, and that is not why I listen to Senses fail. Overall a good album from a great band, if you have liked them previously, you should enjoy this endeavor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome, December 1, 2008
I absolutely love this CD. It has a great mix of harder songs like "Lungs Like Gallows" and "Wolves At the Door", rock that isnt real hard or soft like "Family Tradition", "Blackout", "Four Years" and my favorite "Garden State", this also has a few softer songs like "Fireworks at Dawn" and "Yellow Angels". I love the balance that they put in this CD. The biggest improvement in this CD is the guitar. They have some wicked solo's and bunches more where you just wanna rock out when you hear them. It took me a little while to get used to Buddy's voice. But after a couple songs the strangeness was gone and it didnt bother me any more and I actually really liked it. Buddy's voice in this album sounds a lot like his voice when he performs so that is a big plus for me. The CD is great throughtout and I never skip any songs when listening to the CD. Not a single bad song on the album. Senses Fail truly did a great job of rockin' like they did in their early years but they were still able to show their progress as a band.

4.0 out of 5 stars overly produced or something cant put my finger on it, November 10, 2009
i love still searching, and let if enfold you has much better tone and flow change ... but being as brief as possible ... the lyrics on this album seem a tad whiney ... this may entirely be my own uninterest or initial dislike of the album, but it has not grown on me like still searching did. I am not saying it is a bad album in any respect but as a stand alone cd, which is how any music fan should try to judge and review any new release from any artist, it does not stand as strongly ...

lungs like gallows - family tradition - hair of the dog - four years - and map the streets seem the strongest songs on the album ... and i mean strongest as they are well put together ... differing tempos and breakdowns telling the story as much as the lyrics do

if youre a hardcore senses fail fan i doubt you will pass this up but if youve never listened to them before this is not the place to start - go get let it enfold and crank the volume for lady in a blue dress - bite to break the skin - amd choke on this

5.0 out of 5 stars Great production quality, October 9, 2009
Songs are well crafted and well done. I like them more with each listen. This album is much better than some recent 'post-hardcore' releases including the new The Used. I saw them in concert early last year, it was way too loud and they didn't appear to be playing together cohesively. I think they've gotten better since then.

good cd, but no evolution from the band.
same sound, same style of lyrics, which in most cases would be a good thing... i just expected more from these guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars My senses love the new record, October 12, 2008
By
Well the guys are back with a new great record. How can the singer, Buddy, be so insightful with his lyrics you might ask yourself? He pours his heart and soul into every song. This time it is mostly about his alcohol use, but also his family, friends, and girlfriends. This disc is by far one of the best releases this year of 2008. I'm not sure who the lead guitar player is beginning with "Still Searching" but his solos add remarkable texture to the already well orchestrated songs. The drummer and bass is also phenom.

Better than "Still Searching" ----Yes
Better than "Let it Enfold You" and "Dreams"----Be Serious...
But as the saying goes, this might be there Srg. Pepper. They are progressing needless to say.
