This review is from: Life of William Cowper, The (Paperback)
This is a well written and engaging biography of a poet better known to us common-folk by his poems and phrases than his name (which is pronounced "cooper".) This is the man who coined the phrase, "Variety is the spice of life" and wrote such moving hymns as, "There is a fountain filled with blood".
The biographer wrote in short, cameo-like sections with sufficient detail to make the entire life of William Copwer complete and easy to follow. The writing style is sort of "conversational", as if Wright is telling the story of Cowper's life, rather than reciting the dry facts of it. Highly recommended. |
