To say that Jean-Leon Gerome is one of the most famous Orientalists painters of his time , would be an understatement. While he definetely was an adventurous painter, and of a high caliber , specially in his traveling youth , his work tended to soften up a lot in his older years. One conceivably can imagine the distraction of tackling painting , through official commissions, but also sculpting , and Mosaic as well. Mr Ackermann , an authority on Jean Leon Gerome ,did masterfully put together this wonderful volume , and my many thanks to him for that are long overdue. Thank you Sir , for reminding us that Art is a wild and sophisticated adventure, never dimming , and never forgotten.
