It's about time Batdorf&Rodney was released on cd.The Holland import of Life Is you has great sound quality,And is true to the original recording. Now if someone was smart,They would release the other two albums in Thier catologe,Batdorf&Rodney and thier second album Off The Shelf on cd.How great that would be.

Bad Production!,

This review is from: Life Is You (Audio CD)
If you're into Batdorf and Rodney, you know how wondeful it is to have at least some CD reference, and how deeply disappointing it is that the duo's catalog isn't on CD. Well, I purchased this CD as an import and the sound mix was/is awful. The song "Is it Love," my favorite on the disc, is obscured at the beginning and the production value throughout the CD ranks below the original vinyl. I was hoping it was just my CD, but I purchased "Life is You" for a friend and his copy also sounded muddled. Did I send it back? Ar you kidding?? Getting B & R on a CD, even with a questionable sound mix, is nearly heaven. My vinyl is so worn out it looks like a mountain range and sounds like rain. Now, if we could get the first two LPs on CD, produced by an American company, I'd be absolutely overjoyed. Also, John Batdorf had a nice, acoustic-driven CD out titled "Batdorf & McLean," a few years ago, but it seems it's impossible to find now.

After growing up in the 70s and listening to Batdorf and Rodneys albums on vinyl its quite refreshing to hear the life is you on compact disc. the way they can harmonize together is like a cross between the everly brothers and croby stills and nash .If only they coulld release their 1st album with the songs home again and poor mans dream.

70's College Daze,

This was one of my favorite albums in college. I think it was 1971. The harmonies were fabulous and the twelve-string guitar playing was beautiful. I have both albums but would really like to see a release of their first album on CD. If you like folk/pop/rock you have to hear this music. It's feel good music from a good time gone but not forgotten.

Horribly remastered!,

I was really looking forward to replacing my scratchy album with this CD. The disc says "Remaster in High Definition", but the sound is AM radio all the way. I imported the waveforms into ProTools, and the "remastering" consisted of squashing all the levels to 100%, all the time. The resulting sound is crappy even on crappy speakers. There's no reason to distort the sound this way, and I hope they undo their remastering on the next batch of CDs.

life is you is one of the pieces that was missing in the jig saw puzzle of my life. I was 21 went life you was released and now I am 47. Now i need to hear "home again" and "poor mans dream" off their first album. Is there any chance it will be released? Life is you is going to be a great xmas gift to give out to my friends. I still have both albums but this remastered c.d. magical.

Off The Shelf,

One of the best 12 string acoustical sounds imaginable! I am a native Las Vegan, and had the priviledge of seeing them play a few gigs here-they're home too, (at least at the time!?!) Were they started infront of the best billed top artists/bands of the time(60's-early 70's)! I even got to listen to them JAM as they just sat around in a remote Ranch trailor out in the boon docks, in a no-nothing then town called Pahrump. They were just awesome, even without the accompaniment of a sound studio. What a godly priviledge to be able to create such incredible music!

Their 3rd effort proves to be worthy of their past releases. With added instrumentation to enhance the overall sound, these songs follow in the patterns of previous releases with catchy hooks and melodies you will find yourself singing all day long. I don't know how these guys managed to stay virtually unknown in the Northeast during the peak of the acoustric rock era, but I'm glad they are available and going strong now. They are a must for anyone that enjoys good songwriting, pleasent harmonies and great acoustic rock.
