A few miscellaneous comments:
--You might have to look up a few words. What? You didn't know that a "livery" was a chauffeur's uniform? If you are not experienced in sailing and canoeing, you might feel lost in one of the chapters. --Although the author's mother is nominally the main character in the second half of the book, the reader's attention is sometimes diverted by the father's domineering qualities. --If your own parents were tyrannical, you might find parts of the book unpleasant. |
