Get fit without toiling at the gym several times a week with the LifeCore CD400 C-drive elliptical trainer. Ellipticals in general support a terrific workout by working both your upper and lower body without putting significant stress on weight-bearing joints. The CD400 center-drive elliptical takes it a step further, however, by positioning your body perfectly upright throughout its motion. This creates a more comfortable and efficient workout, and ultimately produces better results over time. The trainer also offers a host of preset programs, giving you plenty of workout options whether you're a beginner just getting started or an experienced user hoping for a tougher challenge. The programs include manual, random, hill, glute blaster, interval, interval mountain, speed interval, target heart rate, heart rate cardio, heart rate fat burn, heart rate hill, and heart rate interval. And thanks to the trainer's close 2-inch pedal spacing and 21-inch stride length, each workout feels natural and enjoyable regardless of your fitness level.

To keep you motivated during your workout, the CD400 includes a large dot matrix LED display that tracks your time, speed, distance, calories, and more, along with a scrolling alphanumeric message center. Best of all for users with small homes or apartments, the CD400 measures only 42 inches wide, so you don't need to dedicate an entire room to storing the trainer. Other features include a friction-free magnetic resistance system, 20 resistance levels, a low 8-inch step-up height, front transport wheels, oversized cushioned footpads, center-grip heart rate sensors, a convenient built-in reading rack, and two user profiles.

The CD400's close 2-inch pedal spacing supports a more natural stride.

I searched for ever and came across the latest Consumer Report magazine and discovered the Lifecore Fitness CD-400 elliptical. I took the plunge and purchased this machine. The CD-400 is ultra compact and fits perfect in my space. This elliptical is built like a tank. It does not move around when I'm at full speed. There is not a up and down motion like most elliptical's. The center drive concept is to keep your body centered (read lifecore brochure). Other elliptical's move your body forward and it's harder on your knees. If your looking for high quality and compact look no further. I have purchased other items from Lifecore and their customer service is also awesome. They actually still answer the phone whern you call them. Wish other companies would take note

I recently ordered and received (two weeks later) the LifeCore CD400 Elliptical Trainer. Shipping to our remote NM location while slow, worked out OK. Product is extremely well packaged and the shipment arrived undamaged. The package is nearly 300# so your trucker will have to deliver it with a lift gate. You will need at least two strong people or a hand truck to move the base of the unit from the box to the room where you will assemble the unit. Assembly instructions were good, step by step, all the nuts, bolts and screws were in the packages and the machine went together in about 3 hours. We did encounter a problem at the end of the assembly process. Installed the computer panel up top which controls the machine but it did not work. Took machine back apart, checked and cleaned all the connections, and it still did not work. Called the company and they are sending a replacement computer via FEDEX. When I called the company, someone actually answered the phone, took the information and said they would send the computer which is pretty nice. The machine is usable now (without computer and programmed workouts, pulse meter, resistance adjustment) and I must say that even as is, it is one great workout. The stride of the machine feels just right for me. I have used other ellipticals before but the stride always felt odd- like I was wearing snowshoes or something. This one seems just right. I am anxious to use it with a working computer! If the computer had worked out of the box, I would have given a 5 star rating.

I ordered The CD400 and it came right on time. As other reviewers have noted, it weighs 300 lbs and mine came on a standard wooden pallet. I'm a 170 lb. man and I was able to unpack the crate in the garage and move each part and assemble in the house by myself - but it was heavy. The instructions recommed 2-man assembly but I found that this wasn't really necessary.

The good:
The unit is well built and the assembly instructions are good. I especially appreciated that the bolts and instructions for each step of assembly were separately bagged. That made things very organized and handy.

The unit worked great right off the bat. No problems at all after about 3 hours of assembly, although it took longer to clean up that pallet and all the packing material afterward.

The unit is quiet in operation which is nice. It's more compact than some eliptical trainers and that's the primary reason I chose it. I exercise each morning, while reading the newspaper on-line on a computer monitor hanging on a wall in front of the machine. I had to find equipment that would get me close enough to the front wall to see that monitor. There is some clearance needed in the front of teh CD400, but it's close enough to meet my need.

Warning:
The surprise to me that I haven't seen in any reviews while researching eliptical trainers is that the highest setting is barely enough to get my heart rate to where it needs to be. This unit has settings from 1 to 20 and I find that I need to use setting 20 to get to my target heart rate. There's no more headroom if I wanted more resistance. One can always increase the pace to get more aerobic action, but I'm not comfortable at more than 3.0 - 3.3 mph.

Just purchased the CD400 after actually finding and climbing on a CD550. The 550 is exactly the same machine, but on this one you don't have the ability to adjust the stride length.
I am 6'5" but I am actually less interested in stride length (21" seems fine to me) but more interested in the height of the handles, as you are supposed to at least be
even with (or above) your heart - or so I've read.

I am a bit suspicious of some of the early reviews here -- noticed that one person has only ever reviewed LifeCore equipment (!) Anyway, I really did do my research and came close to buying
a Diamondback 910er, but when I climbed on both machines next to each other, it was no contest. The CD400 is considerably more solid, and the center drive allows for a very clean stride --
the machine is not forcing you to faux-stride (i.e. lift up your feet when you don't want to) another reviewer referred to this as "bouncy" which seems right to me also.

I like it when the machine is solid and you don't feel as if you are impacting it in any way. Usually only commercial machines (like the very pricey True machines) are like this, but so far
this Lifecore CD400 seems to be.

If I have any future problems I will follow up on this review, but my friend (who sells machines) says the center drive really makes a difference. We'll see.
