5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed
The life hammer is of a solid construction and one can see that it is a quality product.
I got one of these after seeing it on a episode of MythBusters, the amazon "glow in the dark" version is pretty neat and works very well.

This is a saftey item that I feel is well worth every last cent.

The hammer itself is great- lightweight, sturdy construction, 5/5 stars. The mounting bracket is another story entirely. It has to be installed with screws, yet the instructions recommend against doing this yourself for fear of damaging electrical wiring. Then they suggest using velcro or double-sided tape, but none is included in the box. To make matters worse, the bracket is concave, so you can't install it against a flat surface. I'm debating whether to return this product- I know it's important to have in the car, but it's going to be impossible to install.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good quality, July 31, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The picture on Amazon makes the hammer look like it's made of metal. It's actually very cheap silver plastic, and had a crack in it. I sent it back.

5.0 out of 5 stars it will save your life, February 15, 2008
put your life hammer in your glove box or center console so u can reach it from your seat if u cant get your belt off.
Also its made of metal where it counts, the part that breaks the glass, and the seat belt cutter, no reason to be made of metal, then it would be heavy..and potentialy a deadly missile in an accident. You dont have to use the included mounting bracket.
When your upside down and you cant get out of your drowning car think of the life hammer at home....the orange plastic version got 5 stars!! I like the silver color! 3,000 cars go into water, ponds lakes rivers oceans, canals, every year in the USA...1/3rd of those die in the car...AS seen on mythbusters that window wont break unless u use this hammer...itll even work underwater.
if You have this at home in a box..thats just plain stupid..you may need this one day after an accident to prevent being burned alive when you cant open your doors...or if your seatbelt jams.

4.0 out of 5 stars I hope I never have to use it to tell you how wonderful it is!, December 23, 2007
The lifehammer appears to be a quality made product. It is exactly what I felt I wanted in the line of safety products in my car. I agree with all of the other sellers the mounting system is nonexistant. I purchased the sticky back velcro and mounted it on the side of the console so that it would be easily accessible by both driver and passenger. However, due to the design on the back of the case it does no sit firmly, or flush even against the velcro. If you need to remove the hammer you take the case and all in your hand. But that is okay, it will or cannot fall off as long as the velcro is used but its just not rock solid mounting as we might want. I would strongly urge everyone to use the velcro system rather than trying to tether it by a string or something. I am confident that I will access it easily should I ever need to. A must have in addition to a fire extiguisher in every car. I feel better just knowing I have it available.

2.0 out of 5 stars bad quality, July 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I agree with the other poster on the pics being misleading, the unit is somewhat flimsy and light weight, you would think it would be made of metal and be a bit more heavy duty for the pricing. Pricing should be half of what it is for the quality of the unit. Too bad I bought 2. Hope I never have to use them.

If you have the base installed, make sure it's by someone (e.g., dealership) who knows what's under the area on which it's installed--so no electrical or mechanical parts are damaged by the installation.

5.0 out of 5 stars How much would you pay to save someone's life?, July 4, 2011
This review is from: LifeHammer The Original Emergency Hammer (Pink) (Automotive)
If it cost less than $15, wouldn't it be worth it! I feel MUCH safer driving with my children (and childcare kids) in our van, thanks to the LifeHammer! I've shown all the kids how to use it and they've practiced with it. All of them can remove it from its case, which I have on the ground between the passenger and driver's side seats. It's heavy enough to do its job but light enough for 3+ year olds to use it. I love the pink color, too, something in short supply in our home since we have 2 boys. I read reviews on these for awhile before deciding on them; I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews. We couldn't be happier and each of us even has the keychain version, just to be extra safe. Of course, until I actually use this, it's tough to review, but I know it can knock out a window because I had to do that to my rear window when my car rolled next to a canyon when I was 17.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Product - I Hope It Is Never Used..., May 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LifeHammer The Original Emergency Hammer (Pink) (Automotive)
I bought this for the wife's car (she loves pink anything). It's a bit smaller than I thought it would be, and I was a bit disappointed to find that it doesn't really come with an installation kit. It does come with instructions that recommend you seek a professional to install the device (eye roll).

I'll figure out a way to stow it away somewhere.

It loses one star for not providing a means of installing the device.

Have not had to use it yet, but it looks exactly as it was discribed and if fits nicely on the side of my door incase I need it. It is also light and small enough to put in a purse or overngiht bag if needed to.
