After 20 years devoted to helping people manage the fine and fearsome art of making change, the authors of LifeLaunch really know the terrain, having mapped it in exquisite detail. From the subtle changes that reorient us to the radical changes that redefine who we are, they teach us how to move with and not against the currents, and help us face what may ultimately be the great work: coming back again and again to life. --Gregg Levoy, author of Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic Life

This book is an invaluable guide and resource for any transition a person may be experiencing in work, relationships, health, or finances. It is filled with practical and very usable tools for launching something that is new or heartfelt. LifeLaunch offers an outstanding and inspirational manual in how to become more personally and professionally effective. --Angeles Arrien, Ph.D., Cultural Anthropologist and Author of The Second Half of Life

This unique book provides the tools for proactively approaching change during our adult years with confidence, vigor and excitement. A 'must read' for anyone contemplating a new chapter in their life. --Stephen R. Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People

The latest version of this book builds on its seminal wisdom with elegant writing and profound and important truths about how to live our lives to the fullest. There are two quotes that speak volumes about the book's greatest gifts. The first: "The secret to a resilient life in our kind of world is in knowing how to invent yourself, over and over, letting go of what is no longer you...." This book offers a road map, great exercises and potent examples of "real" people who have done precisely this - they have successfully reinvented themselves for the road ahead. The second quote is more disturbing: ""All too many of us run out of dreams long before we die." Although this is a very sad statement, the book addresses our dream-killers - those real and imagined significant dis-satisfactions, limitations and traps. I can't say enough about the wisdom and practical application of this wonderful work.

I am required to read this book as part of a college course and am baffled that anyone would want to include this volume of nearly worthless drivel as part of a curriculum. If you're looking for a poorly written, touchy-feely self-help book that attempts to get its point across with excessively wordy attempts at creating colorful, flowery images - this might be your book. In addition, there are too many examples of poor grammar, poor sentence structure and misspelled or incorrect words to believe a competent editor even looked at it. It's as if the authors decided to write a book about their personal philosophy on life while sitting around a camp fire singing Kumbaya and clinking their finger cymbals. The end result is a book that is a painful insult to read if you have an intellect above the average teenager.
Boiled down, here are the points the book makes:
* You are responsible for your life, nobody else is
* You'll experience challenges and changes in life - adapt and deal with it
* If you don't like something about how your life is, do something about it
There, I just saved you the price of the book.

This book was transformational for me in 1998, and the most recent edition is spot on. Practical and poetic, it is a powerful blueprint for adults of all ages who wish to architect a transition to an engaging, fulfilling life chapter aligned with their deepest values. I am ordering two more this week for friends coping with unexpected changes. My original book never leaves my library; it is one of those rare books--perennially relevant, grounding, and inspirational.
